The best looking MK2 is how it left the factory in 1959.

If I did it myself I'd start with Steed's Broadsheet XJC from the Avengers:
Agreed on the Broadspeed XJC!

If I was going for a Mk2, it would have to be a Beacham with full supercharged V8 upgrade:

But you've got to take your hat off to Ian as he has created the perfect Jag for him and he has done a few corkers in his time.

What a Weissman saloon would have looked like?

Hats off to him for building himself a car he wants.

Personally, I don't like the new bumpers as they just don't match the shape of the rest of the car. And I would spec a darker red interior. And not have a halfords spec single din screen thing. Argh! And not sure about that exhaust tail pipe arrangement.

But I love the feeling behind it, I love the arches, the stance, the engine... Beautiful. I am a fan of this new, growing trend of updated/modernised classics. Singer, Eagle and the like. Bucking the breed of over aided "drivers" cars... Long live analogue!!!

I think there are newer Jaguars he could have played around with if he felt the need, such as an early XJ but I don't like this. First thing he has done I have not liked (except perhaps the S-Type Jaguar which missed the mark I think but he was stuck with the Lincoln LS chassis at the time).

I own a Mark 2, it has uprated brakes and cooling and electronic ignition to make it work in modern traffic, but I don't think one should mess with the form which was just right as it was. Oh and mine has the classis darker red interior smile

Can't understand the hate myself, but then I own an S-Type.

Looks to me like he's gone for a halfway house between original and S-Type R.

That is lovely.... apart from those HUGE door mirrors. I'd put smaller chrome ones on.

+1 though the old 'wing' mirrors are about as much use as a chocolate teapot

Yeah, I kinda like it, but that chin thing on the front looks like a horrid fiberglass body kit. Should have done something to keep the original broad bumpers but maybe cut, shaped and recessed them into the body a bit more.
Then again you could have just left it as the factory intended and you'd still be onto a winner. 8 out of 10.

i have to say, from a man who has designed some seriously good looking cars, IMO this is one hell of a balls up. But, its his balls up and im sure he is happy with it.

went to an F type Q&A with him, he had a right old moan about not being paid enough and never getting to keep the cars he designs.

Love Ian Callum's work .... but this isn't well resolved. The original double fluted bumpers were always too heavy looking ..... but the easier solution is Jaguar's own more delicate slimline design from the later 240/340 that followed the MK2.
The wheels just have the wrong spoke pattern and are really a tad too big.
Good on him for having a go though!

I love it, it has a much more purposeful look about it like a true 60s saloon racer. Personally I'd have smoothed the bumpers in fully but other than that it's stunning.

I think this minus the mirrors but perhaps adding Ian Callum's wheels and slightly lowered suspension, would be perfect.

Ian Callum's looks out of sorts with its integrated bumpers and OTT vents in the front wings..

Ah those mirrors. Now that's all I can see. Yuk. I am still flexible enough to look over my shoulder, which I got into the habit of doing when driving a car without mirrors for many years. Helps to have slim pillars though. Even now, armed with big modern mirrors, I still do it.

XJ12C still a dream car. Some rough edges on it though. This guy did a good job http://jaguar.fiboy.com/XJ12C.htm

LJK Setright once wrote that if fitted with a manual it would be the best car in the world - sometime about 1977, when I was very impressionable.

Callum's car is a personal one, so hats off for doing it. - not for me though, looks too forced. Should have ditched the bumpers altogether perhaps, that rear one just sits on the curves poorly. Still, wouldn't kick it out of bed...

I love it, the fact he's designed for himself too, I really like the fact you can tell that this isn't the standard shape and look he'd design to appeal to a mass of potential customers but just gone for something that appeals to his personal taste.
