I love it, the fact he's designed for himself too, I really like the fact you can tell that this isn't the standard shape and look he'd design to appeal to a mass of potential customers but just gone for something that appeals to his personal taste.
We're in a minority here, but I think it looks great. Yes, the front spoiler treatment is a bit odd, but it's a good modern take on a classic saloon otherwise. It's individual.
Minority just got bigger. Few details I don't like (yes, the air intakes -- and perhaps a tad more ride height).
But that's besides the point. IMVHO it looks great, and the biggest compliment you can make to the original. Bit of well judged cleaning up of the Mk2 shape, few technical updates. Bang you have a very pretty car that does not look out of place in 2014 and certainly drives really well.
If I had the funds, I would love to do something similar. Perhaps starting from an AC Aceca or a SAAB 99.

I think this minus the mirrors but perhaps adding Ian Callum's wheels and slightly lowered suspension, would be perfect.
Ian Callum's looks out of sorts with its integrated bumpers and OTT vents in the front wings..
I didn't notice the mirrors until you mentioned them, but you're right.Ian Callum's looks out of sorts with its integrated bumpers and OTT vents in the front wings..
When it comes to classics, I would fit some sensible bits and bobs to make it useable and reliable (e.g. updated cooling system and brakes) and leave it there. Mess with it too much and you lose the beauty and character, totally defeating the object. Whatever you do, it will never perform like a modern car.
That thing has pretty much become a kit car.

Good on him for designing something for himself. If he likes it, that's all that matters.
However, it occurs to me that a better MkII with more modern performance already exists, and has for decades:
Taking out that lardy lump of iron and replacing it with a better, lighter, more compact engine was the best thing that ever happened to the MkII.
One can only imagine how good the E-type would've been with that engine!

I get the idea of having a classic car with modern mechanics and equipment - But i think the concept works best when the car looks as original as possible.
This is just about perfection, in my eyes......

Err..not very well I imagine. 2.5litre V8 developing 140 bhp where a 4.2litre 6 developing 265bhp (allegedly)lived. The V8 was a lovely engine though- drove a friend's DArt with the V8 and sounded lovely .However, it occurs to me that a better MkII with more modern performance already exists, and has for decades:

But ..I bet you meant to refer to the Majestic Major V8 perhaps? 4.5 litre and 220ish bhp ?
