That's kind of the point. All the stuff he does is so easy you could do it yourself. Specialist stuff such as paint is farmed out.

New series starts in a couple of dayssmile

Remember everyone - this is an entertainment programme on TV. It's not Open University.

The buying and selling bit is just a framework to fit the interesting bits into. It's a way of turning Ed China doing stuff with old cars into the narrative of a TV programme. Mike Brewer sets up the context for the story, and I think he does it well.

Ah, Mike Brewer. At Le Mans this year as he strolled through the village, a chorus of 'You're not Jeremy' rang out .... tongue out
No he isn't Jeremy. Thank God. But Mike was at Le Mans, where a real car nut should be the 24th weekend of the year. Was Jeremy there? Think not.
Indeed, he also has so very impressive show room, quite an upgrade from his early shows where Ed (pre wheeler dealers) would swap out a radio and tyre black a car to add a tenner to the sale price lol

Despite Brewer getting fatter and China getting scruffier by the second, Wheeler Dealers is a great program. Entertaining and informative in one go. Plenty of artistic license, but no biggie. WD is the by far the most popular series on the Discovery and Quest TV channels who license it.

Same, which is why I'm pleased it's now on Quest, albeit an older series.

ive never understood this argument, The show is about making a profit from restoring cars.
Nobody is ever going to make money restoring cars by paying someone else to do all the work. The whole point is to show you some DIY mechanics.

Ok the later series that seems to have moved away from home mechanics and the "profit making" has taken a bit of a back seat tp the point where most will just switch off the last 10 minutes of brewer anyway, hes just a face for tv. If you watch the first few series it was all much more DIY type work, Spraying things with aerosol cans etc.
Where as now ed comes out with thousand pound brake skimming machines that not even most garages would have let alone a diy'r

but adding labour doesnt make sense, you wouldnt buy cheap cars then send them to garages and then try and sell for a profit,
Agreed, and even if you were your business, you would only get income from the profits. A regular salary is what employees get.

My 6 year old thinks that Ed China is a hero!
So do I! smile
And me, and my wife, and my 6 year old daughter. Ed is a GOD!

The show works as light-hearted entertainment while also being informative. So what if it is not a fly-on-the-wall documentary!

PS. They also show it in Italy - Mike's dubbed voice is hilarious, especially when you are so use to hearing his cockney accent.

Yeah, its a great show. The only programme me and my boy watch together.

OK, so they take no account of Ed's time or facilities or Mike's resources and costs of sales and collection - but heh, who really cares?
They choose a cracking mix of cars, and genuinely take great pleasure from improving the ones they do.

I think the "financials" add to the programme, as it demonstrates that its about doable for fun if you put the hours in, do the research & find the bargains - if your time is "free" into the job.

Its certainly inspired me to do the same. (And after 20+yrs of being "locked out" in company car world, tinkering in my garage brings me enormous pleasure - even if its daft as finding the exact same switch but for a motorhome at a 1/3 of the price of my car's manufacturers parts bin)

Its good telly and one of only 3 programmes I have on series link.

O/T - I had no idea that was how they decided the date, clever.

Right, duly noted to ignore any prices given in future smile Great show though and as it's been mentioned, nicely straight forward without too much flannel.

I remember the C4 show he did a decade or more ago, him and another tall chap (or does everybody seem tall next to Mike?)

I recall it had a combination of 'Wheels' and 'Deals' in the title too.

I think it's a brilliant show, great way of relaxing. Out of all the car shows its the one I like the most.
The formula works well and they choose some really interesting cars.

Mike does seem to get bigger and bigger as the series continue. I was surprised he got into (or out of) the Elise.

Took me a few seconds to get that biggrin

I love the show along with American Hot Rod, The Garage, A car is born, and all the others. I wish there were more car programs on TV.
