I enjoy it.
Mike's "out and about" sections are pretty interesting too, specially when he's visiting manufacturers and Repairers/restorers of the various parts.

I'm looking forward to the new series.

I'd have to agree that 'Trading Up' didnt tickle me like proper WD does, not enough Edd- who's really the meat of the show imho.

Also, they do have some fairly notable 'misses', the RX7 being the most heinous recent example. I kind of like the fact that they have the odd blip- makes the show less predictable.
Actually, I found parts of 'Trading up' quite interesting; how a Japanese auction operates, that kids can drive restricted cars in Sweden and that there is such a big American car scene over there, etc, even if the 'car work' itself wasn't to the same level as the usual shows.

Also, I'm not sure the RX7 episode was a 'miss'. Certainly it's not something I could ever see me doing to any car I own, but it was interesting to see how something like that snake-skin finish was achieved. Showing what can be done and how they do it is one of the best aspects of the show; from getting a spoke replaced on a wire wheel to doing an LPG conversion...

Surely, Brewer wears a syrup. Has nobody else noticed?

Top entertainment show by the way.

I enjoy WD, as long as you don't take it seriously it's good fun. They have made the point in the past that they aren't costing in Eds labour. It's nice to get to see how the work is done as opposed to just what work is done, if that makes any sense.

But then I also enjoyed Car SOS and Love of Cars, so maybe I'm just easily pleased.

It's still a million miles away from the self-serving, highly staged vanity projects that similar, largely non-UK based shows go for, and all the better for it.
Did you ever see Graveyard Carz? It was more about the "cast" bickering than any actual car work.
I made the same point a while ago. Faux arguments and oh my god will we make on time moments, it's the same for very single one of the yank shows. An episode of friends had a more difficult storyline.

I remain grateful that we have WD, car SOS and for the love of cars.

I like a few others have met mike'n'edd and they are down to earth car guys who, let's face, are living the dream a bit.

My favourite show I have met both Ed and Mike a few times at the odd car shows here and there.

The miss for me was the Morgan, i thought it was a bit daft as it was over 120 hours work & then not factoring that work into the budget. Although I understand the way the show works....

My favourite has to be the Lancia Delta they did....

Ah but did you know he's a PH regular? Well possibly.

Him and the hairy guy were what put me off Fifth Gear, but in Car SOS he's kind of grown on me.

Tim Shaw just comes across as someone who really likes cars in my opinion, with a bit of TV overacting for effect.

Fuzz Townsend wasn't in Fifth Gear. That was Tom Ford. Fuzz was the drummer in 80's band Pop will eat itself and then the Wonderstuff. He comes across as a thoroughly nice bloke and pretty good mechanic.

Edit: Just reread Tahiti's post and realised I had the wrong end of the stick.

Yep, Tim was dire on Fifth Gear. He's much better on car SOS. I look forward to each episode.

I like WD. Have been watching it since series 1. Mike seems to have toned down the cock-er-knee geeza schtick (or maybe Im just used to it) and Edd seems like a pretty straight up guy, though I question his shirt choices sometimes. They both seem like enthusiastic and honest enough fellas. And thankfully there isnt any of that Americanised faux drama every 5 minutes.

Myself and my brothers have probably lost too much time joking about Paul waiting in the back of the van or sleeping in a Snap-On coffin at the bottom of the inspection pit just waiting to hear his name to rise from his slumber.

As for the not costing on labour, I always just saw it as labour not being costed as the stuff Edd does is stuff you could do yourself if well equipped and determined enough. They do tend to tally on the bill stuff that you cant really do in your own garage.

Most of the questionable style choices are easily reversible, and its entertaining enough to see them do them (or Mike trawling around a parts warehouse picking out every bit of shiny plastic he sees).

Love the show, and having restored some cars myself I fully understand the costings. I certainly dont include my labour costs when selling a car. Just wish they were all on the internet. But now they are showing them on quest I can catch up on them. Waiting forn the DB7 one...

I'm expecting a warning notice at episode beginning one day that Ed will actually De-Rusts some of the bits he bolts new bits to. I believe I spotted a blaster in the background in one episode, and a tin of paint isn't expensive. And it would be nice if Mike accepted that we don't have the retention span of a goldfish, thus not repeating the last 5 minutes of the pre-ad section at the start of the next section.

It's done for those places where an advert cuts in every 60 seconds and people dip in and out of TV programmes. As the show is such a good one I'll forgive them it.

I tend to watch the show on Sky+ so I can FFWD through all the ads, and the recap after the advert bits.

Got it programmed in to record tomorrow night, looking forward to it.

Mike - if you ever read this - how about a "Making of..." one-off where you do a behind the scenes of the safety checks and thorough valets that are done to all cars before they go on the turntable, the research you/your people do in locating the cars (from owners clubs etc), the logistics involved in getting cars back to base from far-flung locations. That sort of stuff.

I regret being critical of WD after reading this thread, to their credit there are no staged arguments or "will we meet the deadline" false drama nor do Mike and Ed feel the need to go on team building distractions which have nothing to do with the theme of the show.

What has swung it for me is the pair still putting in the hours and lugging their own gear whilst being approachable, Diamond Geezers ain't they.
