I've just watched Wheeler Dealers where Mike and Ed picked up a 1975 a Interceptor for £5k, tided it up a bit then sold it for £6.5k (allegedly).

This can't be right - a quick trawl through the classifieds confims that prices are a lot higher. What's the score?

Its not live TV. It was filmed years ago.

Series 7 was first shown in may 2010 so probably filmed in 2009.

If memory serves me right, he transported the Jensen in an 08 plate Discovery - so presumably 2008 or thereabouts ?

Am just watching the re-runs as well, wish you could pick up an Esprit for that sort of money.

The first time I came across this programme I thought the presenter was Reg Varney.

Unlike most fix-it car shows though I find it almost tolerable to watch, despite the errors and omissions. Mike Brewer is by all accounts a likeable bloke according to those who have met him.

I am not sure I would employ him as a car salesman though, he seems to lack the shark like manner of a real wheeler dealer and has a slim grasp of profit/loss.

I happened to watch the Esprit one tonight and noticed that Mike set out on his journey back to the workshop in the pouring rain but by the time he arrived the cars were dry, the tow vehicle had been washed and polished whilst the Lotus had a thick layer of dust. To top it all you could see hand prints in the dust from the first take of the scene, but I suppose we should not expect Hollywood production values.

There are far worse shows on tv and at least this one is not full of product placement.

Ah, Mike Brewer. At Le Mans this year as he strolled through the village, a chorus of 'You're not Jeremy' rang out .... tongue out

ive never understood this argument, The show is about making a profit from restoring cars.
Nobody is ever going to make money restoring cars by paying someone else to do all the work. The whole point is to show you some DIY mechanics.

Ok the later series that seems to have moved away from home mechanics and the "profit making" has taken a bit of a back seat tp the point where most will just switch off the last 10 minutes of brewer anyway, hes just a face for tv. If you watch the first few series it was all much more DIY type work, Spraying things with aerosol cans etc.
Where as now ed comes out with thousand pound brake skimming machines that not even most garages would have let alone a diy'r

but adding labour doesnt make sense, you wouldnt buy cheap cars then send them to garages and then try and sell for a profit,

I like Wheeler Dealers and I think Mike Brewer comes across as a pretty decent bloke.

My 6 year old thinks that Ed China is a hero!

I think the raison d'etre of .the show is to keep future classic or interesting cars on the road. The profit is secondary in most cases

I've only recently seen this show, since Quest started showing it.

It's a car show ,so I enjoy it.

No worse than the recent shows on both Ch 4 and 5.

I like the show and the presenters but didn't realise it was quite so old.

Even Mrs303 was sceptical and said if i could find an Interceptor for £6k then i could have one.

She must be more up to date on the current values than me or knew the show was filmed ages ago, confident I'd never find one.

No he isn't Jeremy. Thank God. But Mike was at Le Mans, where a real car nut should be the 24th weekend of the year. Was Jeremy there? Think not.

It's a TV show, obviously the figures don't stack up.
