Scotland Road Trip advice please

Hi all

Looking for recommendations on places to camp or hostel anywhere in the Dumfries Galloway , Ayrshire upto Oban area , preferably not to remote ,i.e walking distance to at least a pub.

Going on Monday from Derby .

Any advice welcome.

Around 5 miles from Dumfries in middle of a forest?

http://www.marthrownofmabie.com/ with a bar nearby.

Very popular with walkers and mountain-bikers,and only 10 mins in a taxi from the town centre.
