How nervous/experienced are you at towing? 85% rule can be ignored if you are feeling brave and careful with loading nose weights etc.

ETA

your going to need something substantial - Galaxy for instance is capacity 1800jkg. Freelander? E class merc (not really economical around town though).

Do you have a licence which allows you to tow?

You can get a caravan/car combination that weighs less than 3.5 tonnes.

Yes I have towed for years.I also got a class 1 hgv.so towing not a problem.I have a x5 at the min but I have a new job which I will be travelling 50 to 60 miles around trip to work.so thinging of having a car that will do a lot more to the gallon but will also tiw my caravan

A Passat 2.0 diesel will tow up to 1800kg (braked capacity). Real world driving I get 55mpg easily. I've towed with it (900kg rally car on a twin axel trailer) and it still did 40mpg.

OP, you've got two threads running on essentially the same subject, but yet you've failed to answer any questions that have been raised of you. We are quite a friendly bunch on here and will assist when we can, but meet us half way eh ?

sorry everyone I dont come on every day.

reason I got two threads is.
1, ive asked if you guys can post a few cars that do the most to the gallon.ie clio or citrion c1 etc.

2.the other post is regardeing tow car mpg.as a little citron could not tow a 1800kg.

as ive stated I have a x5 at the min.do I keep it just to tow the caravan about six times a year plus use it for nice family days out.and buy a cheap second hand little car.as in a clio for work doing around 50 miles a day..or do I sell the x5 and get one that will tow but is doing a little more to the gallon than the x5

sorry if I upset anyone but like I said I dont come on here every day only when I get a chance.

hope this has cleared up the reason why I gave two post.
sugestions in what to do will be greatfull.
Thanks
