Probably something like an old 318i BMW for £800ish. Comfortable, cheap, reliable, enough space, rwd... Why would you want some crappy fwd miniature hatchback?

Panda 55bhp

Just find a "B". More fun within the speed limit that a WRX at double it.

A Toyota iQ appeals to me, for reasons I cannot fathom.

It just looks different and I admire that.

K11 micra 1.0. Even with so little power a 7300 RPM redline makes it feel so fast! Preferably a base spec model with no power steering so you really appreciate what you've got.

Suzuki Jimny.

I'd still have mine if some previous spanner monkey hadn't tried to prise out the gearbox seal with a sharp implement, scoring the gearbox housing and causing it to leak expensive pink fluid on my driveway. Tit.

Loved that 'iccle car.

agree but think the 1.0 is just a bit too slow to live with, the 1.3 makes things tolerable.

I never knew what the redline was - No rev counter tongue out

Agreed with the 1.3 comment, the 998cc was fine around town, but I imagine with a little bit more given by the 1.3 it would get along nicely. Had a go in one stripped out for autotesting and it was a blast biggrin

MR2 Mk3 as a daily for me. At 140-ish bhp/tonne it's not exactly underpowered but I wouldn't want to go much lower. Have run Mk1 MX5 & 8v Golf GTI in the past as daily drivers and didn't die.

My Mum had an early 2000's Micra with some kind of hair dryer mounted in the engine bay. As long as you selected full-throttle and didn't lift at any point it was actually possible to make safe progress.

The 1.3 was only available on the sporty models though! But I would agree really. Had a base 1.0 when my fiesta was in for a couple of bits and it made the ford feel properly luxurious! The micra did feel a but unsettled above 80. But it's transport that's reliable. Which is worth a lot really.

I had a 1.3 as a courtesy car from a garage while my ancient 1.3 Mk4 fiesta was in for a service. In comparison the Micra felt like a rocketship, even though it smelt of wet dog and the radio was locked.

Surely depends on what you do on a daily basis, sometimes our C1 is enough.
My personal opinion of course but I gas a C1 as a hire car a year ago and I really thought it would be a fun nippy motor - sadly it was exactly what is wrong with motoring today; ugly, badly made, slow but full of stupid features like daytime running lights. One of the worst cars I have ever driven.

Cheapest would be a Ford Puma 1.7. I bought a rust free 45k mile example last year for £1000.

Slowest: A Seat Arosa 1.4 TDi might be fun, but I've never driven one. I did own a Pug 205 NA 1.8/1.7 diesel van, 60 hp, and that was fun.
