Hi can any one tell me if you where to import a year old low km car into the uk from germany tax paid in Germany would any tax be payable here? A little confusing this new NOVA scheme as it mention tax payable. TIA.

If vat was paid in Germany then I presume no tax here - I will try dig up a thread about as have just imported two cars and bikes etc.

Even if not vat is due you still need to declare it to HMRC online within 14 days otherwise around £10 per day penalty after that until max of £500 per vehicle

HMRC website a bit of a maze but there is a lot of info on there:

They're actually pretty helpful and knowledgeable on the phone too. Sometimes take a while to answer but I've never managed a question they haven't been able to answer (or point me to the correct info on the web).

Thanks arguti. I thought as a german tax paid car only first reg and road tax would need to be paid but that NOVA info is just not clear.

I normally speak with the NOVA team but have found HMRC in general useful on the phone.
