Hi all.
I have a passat 2006, the 1.6 petrol 6 speed car, to cut a long story short I'm after a 2nd hand box as the refurb costs are quite high, is this gearbox on any other cars in the range as I am struggling to track one down, I think the input shaft bearings are trashed although I'm not a mechanic

all help appreciated

Just look through ebay at cars breaking rather than searching gearbox and I'm sure you'll find a few for your model (Mk3?)

Search the T'intrnet for VW specific breakers they are as knowledgeable as main dealers .

OP - wondering if the 'box from an A3 would fit? My car has same engine as yours (it's an A3) I'd be mega surprised if the gearbox was different - it's even visually extremely similar (from the outside of course) to the one on my old B3 Passat 1.8.

Golfs (inc Golf Plus), Tourans and Skodas use the same 'box I reckon.

Apologies I'm not a VW tech, but I could see if I can find a part number on my (2005) box if you like - lots of parts are interchangeable on these - I have quite a few "VW" parts fitted.

^^^ That sounds quite possible. Even if the gear/diff ratios turn out to be differently chosen it should still work just fine.

Diesel ratios are different, but I'd be surprised if the petrol ones (for the same engine) were.

There are 2 1.6 engines - I am 99% sure yours is the 1.6 FSI like mine.

All the vehicles I listed (poss not Touran) were also available with the older 8v 1.6 petrol, but that only has a 5-speed box.

There must be some specialist VW breakers out there. I needed an engine for my Mini and found a brilliant outfit in Manchester. BEWARE there are parts search sites that put you in touch with breakers. The phone numbers are premium rate, £1.50 a minute. Fortunately once I got through to the breaker he immediately gave me his landline. That saved about a tenner!

The Gearbox and engine codes are in the front page of the service book and on a sticker in the boot - my engine code is BLF and the Gearbox code is HBM. Interestingly, looking that up on a gearbox reconditioner's site list mine as a golf box anyway.

On top of my gearbox is marked -

WWO
02T30 (semthing else I can't see, maybe a 1)
