It depends on who is organising it and if everyone is in agreement with a few basic rules which when im leading a convoy or leading a run out will agree with. Can see your point of view in some can be s and take things to far but a dab of oppo on a junction at 6-7am in the morning with know when else around doesn't cause any harm along with a good blast in 2nd gear and depends on place and time.
So a few basic rules...'dab of oppo' 'blast in 2nd gear'

Yes, this is the reason anyone sane wouldn't want to be part of a convoy. It's the people you see, they're just a bit thick.

Most people haven't experienced driving in a tight, well-matched group of capable drivers with well-planned routes designed for maximum fun and minimum traffic at the right times in the right places.

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

I have, and with a small group of people whose idea of acceptable speed is similar it can be hugely enjoyable . But the larger the group the more antisocial it appears and the more likely it will contain some idiot who thinks driving at high speed through villages is ok and who regards oncoming traffic as an inducement to overtake .

I once encountered a large group of 911s , GTRs etc en route to a local breakfast meet whilst driving up the A1 and the behaviour was just appalling - shouldering their way on to the main road from slip road and clearly scaring the sh**t out of the poor sods minding their own business. One car doing this isn't great- 20 or 30 is a disgrace

Exactly this.

Have experienced both ends of the spectrum, an E30 owners meet many years ago where the demographic was split between rude boiz in their 325i Sports and pensioners in their automatic 318i cabriolets with tartan rugs and thermos flasks was particularly painful.

The polar opposite was an unofficial PH hampshire tunnel run, amazing cars, amazing routes, fantastic driving and a 5:30 am start on a Sunday so we could make the most of it! I'm assuming that the fact that most of Hampshire constabulary's traffic dept were waiting at our destination was pure coincidence...
