Most of the time the roads are busy so there's no point trying to go fast, like the OP said it makes barely any difference and isn't worth it.

When driving in traffic I concentrate on getting the best economy I can which saves me money and gives me something to focus on to alleviate the boredom. Doing this I quite regularly achieve 40-45mpg over a journey (Mk5 GTI) and arrive feeling relaxed, happy and less poor.

I discovered it too about six months ago, and I'm even ordering my next car as an automatic. There is no pleasure to be gained driving the roads I drive at the times I drive them. Comfort and minimal stress levels are the order of the day.

Time permitting I always try to cruise at 60-70mph, I even saw over 25mpg once smile

But when you have a wife who always takes 30 mins longer to get ready, you have to make up the time somehow mad

Wait, how did you get points on your driving licence for a "non-driving" related incident? Motorbike?

Didn't some old guy get points for letting drivers know about a mobile camera site? Might as well have confiscated his TV licence.

Can you seriously get points for doing that? What about those satnav apps where you can report speed cameras?

I've subscribed to this view for a while.....but.....WTF is it with people on A roads when there's no other traffic and no bikes/pedestrians, kittens, sheep etc about doing at least 10mph below the posted limit?

Last night's was a 2 year old Merc 350 CDI Convertible - 30 in the 40, we hit the 50 zone, 40, another 40 zone, 30, at least she didn't slow down any more in the 30 bit, no increase for the next 40 zone, but miraculously nearly hit 50 in the next 50, until we came to hill, when it was back to 40......arrrghh. If it was a long queue then I'd just grin and bear it but she was the only thing between me and a trip home at decent and legal speeds....

One of the 40 zones has one of those "your speed is" things - WTF do people slam on the brakes to pass it at least 10mph under the limit...

Could you not overtake? It's not illegal.

I like to drive sedatlly, I'll stick to the speed limits on the most part.

Do you drive like a granny when you pull away? Slipping the clutch at 5,500 rpm?

No, poor visibility, on.y short stretches with an opportunity, oncoming traffic and having a ste car all conspired to prevent this - believe me, I do when I can.
