There was an XR-6: Australian Falcon.

I think the 'XR' nomenclature originated in OZ as well.
(Stands to be corrected)
Actually, it might have been the XR-6 I was thinking of instead of an XR5

The XR4 had a bespoke bodyshell with the extra side windows. The Cosworth used the same two-door hatchback body as the standard cars.
You mean they added that horrible bar on purpose?!
The RS Cosworths most people remember are the 3door and the homologation RS500. There was the four door 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive Saffire shaped body's but these were badged Sierra RS Cosworth. The 4x4 model had a modified body compared to the standard Saffire. The engine block was different to the 2 door. Core plug sizing and material was more in line with the RS 500. The 4x4 was relatively refined to drive with pretty good road holding, no wayward power slides.

Amercan XR4i, uses a turbo 2.3 Lima engine (similar to our pinto)
Er.. it's not really "our" Pinto is it - since it originates in the Ford Pinto ....
So does the Lima, they also call it the pitno in the US so in the UK it gets called the Lima (where it was produced) to differenciate between "thiers" and "ours" (so to speak) as they look V V similar but yes both were used in the Ford pinto smile.

You know you are getting old when people say they haven't seen a Sierra before...
Tony (aged 61)
I can remember going to Tildesley Ford in Shifnal the day the Sierra was released with my Dad in his Cortina. He was speechless at the appearance of the Sierra.

Simon (age 43).
After a succession of Cortina Mks I through V in our family I remember the first time I saw a Sierra too. It looked like a roadgoing spaceship back then to 12 year-old me.

Not sure about that, I think the XR5 is roughly the same as our 'ST' so it's Focus XR5 Turbo and Mondeo XR5 Turbo (equivalent to the Focus ST and the Mk4 Mondeo ST that we never actually got, nearest being the Mondeo 2.5T Sport)

And in prototype form (probe), it did !!

There were more outlandish versions too.

Just had to wiki it ..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Focus_(second_ge...

there is no plain "XR5"

wiki said:
The Ford Focus Mk 2 ST is also known as the XR5 Turbo in the Australian and New Zealand market, but is sold as a five door hatchback only. In 2008 Ford, in conjunction with Mountune Racing, unveiled a power upgrade kit which raises the power output to 260 bhp (190 kW). the kit consists of: a K&N panel filter, larger intercooler and a re-map. No saloon version of the Focus ST has been released.
Looks like they have dropped the "XR5 Turbo" name now, and called it the ST.

One year when I was getting my XR4x4 MOT'ed, it was up on the lift and a junior mechanic came up to me, and said: "'Ere mate, gaffer says your Sierra is four wheel drive, is he having me on?". So I looked at the badge, checked there weren't any parrots flying over (it did sound like a typical "long stand" wind-up but he did look genuine) took him to the front of the car, and pointed at the front drive shafts. "Ooooohhhhhh...." said bright spark.

Sigh. You just can't get the staff.

The Cosworth body variant of 3 door Sierra started life as the sexy and interesting (may not be true) 1.3 and 1.6L, usually in hearing aid beige.
