Gents,

Just a quick one.

I'm only 20, and need to get temporary insurance for about 2 weeks.

Due to my age, they want to charge a fortune. I've been quoted a staggering £350 for 2 weeks on 1.6 Diesel Golf (my mums).

I just put all my bits on compare the market, and I can just get an annual policy for £400 for another 50 weeks worth of use.

If I were to take this out, and just cancel within the 14 days, presume that would be about £50? (£30 admin charge, no cancellation fee as within 14 days, 2 weeks worth of cover £20 for actual use of policy).

Anyone done this before; is it as simple as that?

Many have, and yes it is as simple as that, although the vehicle will be Dual insured(assuming your mum has a policy) and insurance companies dont like that, when you tell them it already has insurance on it (albeit not in your name) they will decline to cover you.(they dont like 2 insurances on a vehicle)

Oh and I dont think think they will be too happy if you tell them you are going to cancel after 14 days either.

I think most annual insurers will like you to be the registered keeper

When I wanted to test drive a car the seller asked for proof of insurance.

I spoke to my insurance provider (Admiral) and insured his car for 1 week in my name at a cost of £20 as another car on my current multicar policy.

I was not the registered keeper or anything at the time.

If it's your mum's car can't she just add you as a named driver for a fortnight?

I thought your new company had given you a hire car to use?
