A Local garage struggled to source a rear brake cylinder for my wife's Kia Rio (fine car, thrilling to drive biggrin).

Local motorfactors and Kia Main Dealer all supplied the wrong part based on the Reg/age/type.

In the end it seems the sourced the part from Hendy Ford with the following part number:

P-K5833016000 (Or maybe P-KS833016000 - can't read my writing).

SO in general to Kias and Fords share many components?

Can anyone identify the Hendy Ford part number and give me a more generic part number if I ever need one again?

TIA.

Ford sold a rebadged version of the kia pride in some markets, so if the rio had the same rear brakes as the old kia pride (relatively likely) then ford would need to stock the part (though I dont think the ford version sold in the UK, could be wrong)

It is not unusual for brake parts to be common across disparate makes of cars. The rear pads on my wife's 307SW are the same as those fitted to an Audi A8 for example.

There are maybe only about a dozen manufacturers of OEM brake parts around the world (calipers, cylinders etc.) so it is not unusual for their parts to turn up on several different makes.

^^This. A Tier one supplier might provide a lot of the braking system together and even work on calibrating it.

No - but as already said brakes and suspension parts such as track rod ends etc are more generic than most parts due to the small number of suppliers.

That's not a Ford part number, that's for sure.

As far as I know, we don't share components with our competitors and the suppliers can't share our stuff without us getting a sttonne of cash.

Thanks everyone, especially Ground Effect.

Interesting that it's not a Ford part number, I'm mildly concerned that the guy just made up a part number to get rid of me and next time I'll have the same hassle as they did to source one.

Time will tell.
