...please

Hi all,

Mini cooper 2006 (r50),

Just had new front tyres fitted and the tyre place rang me before I was due to collect insisting I get the wheel alignment done there and then and that I would ruin the new tyres if we didn't get this done there and then wobble They then gave me a print out and gave me a quote of £70 to fix this.

Looking at the bars below all but one value seems in the green with only one value marginally out (middle one at the bottom).

Is all ok? Does the alignment need doing urgently?

Thanks

To be honest, without seeing the illustration at the left, I'm not sure how to interpret the scan; but it looks to me like the total tracking is OK, but it will pull heavily to one side. Or they didn't centre the steering wheel properly before they did the measurements..... Did it pull before you had the tyres changed?

Being in the green or red just means the values are within manufacturer QC specs for the vehicle. It's a little hard to read but it looks like your total toe is out in different directions at each end of the car. They are correct in as much as this will cause uneven tyre wear. I'd say just get it done.

I had my car aligned recently and my total toe wasn't as badly out as yours. I noticed a more stable feel on cornering once it was sorted.

Thanks for the reply the images cut off on the left are the mirror of the right hand side. The car didn't pull noticeably. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't centre the steering wheel at this place they have tried it on with me before but they were £20 cheaper for the tyres than anywhere else.

OK, go here - http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/

Use that to find a place near you with a Hunter alignment system, they're about as good as these systems get apparently. Get yourself booked in for check and correction with one of those places.

Worth checking/having checked the front lower arm rear bushes condition on those before having any alignment work done, if they are worn they wibble about all over the place affecting the toe at the front.
