It's been going on for quite some time to be honest. Looks particularly good on red cars.

My plans of a GT-86 for her and a sensible estate for me have been blown apart by this. We need 2 cars that can transport a family as I work away a lot.

Now I am thinking cheap 4 seater for her, cheap company car for me and a mk4 in red with black wheels in the garage for both of us at weekendsbiggrin

By both of us, I of course mean me biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Anyone else trying to decide between this new MX5 and a GT86/BRZ? Thoughts? Clearly top down motoring would add another dimension.
I imagine that with the BRZ price drop it will be very similarly priced to the MX-5. Although how much they will cost on lease deals remains to be seen.

The MX-5 is such a great formula, the only reason that I haven't got one now is that I fancied a change after 8 years. I'd be tempted to give the BRZ a chance, as they are rarer on the roads than the MX-5 and the local Subaru dealer are a lot better than the Mazda dealer, but it is that close.

Many of the MK1 racecars have black windscreen frames.

The j-limited II came with a black windscreen frame - the easiest way to differentiate it from the j-limited

The wankel rotary engine in one of these, as a flagship "Racing" model would be awesome.
Lighter than the 2 lt lump, very high revving and 220hp+

I never understood why Mazda have never fitted this engine in the MX5, better suited than in the heavier RX7 I would have thought.
I agree, I believe that there was a "skunk works" project with the NC that eventually became the RX-8 but a shame there wasn't one from the factory.

The electrical steering though. Hmm, will have to wait and see.

Don't like the idea of the steering system. We shall see.

Long as they sort the EPAS out (and there's no good reason they shouldn't), should be onto a winner thumbup
There was nothing wrong with the EPAS on the RX-8, lots of people have grumbled about other implementations but I don't recall people complaining about that one (well apart from the expense if it breaks). I doubt the MX-5 would be any different.

good looking car. imagine it could be even better with decent wheels and a folding hardtop smile
No thanks. Leave the folding hardtops to the heavy all show no go cars and leave the MX-5 as lightweight thanks.

It is rumoured that the Showa EPAS rack in the RX8 is the same unit used in the S2000, which is regularly criticised for lacking in any feel and being a poor match to the car.

Strange how it works in one and not the other.

They look the same and are both Showa items but different ratios, presumably very different maps and the geometry has a massive effect on how the steering feels power steering or not. I would be very very surprised if the racks were the same length.

I'd also be curious to see the difference in feel between both with a depowered rack (ie same ratio but no motor).

No, but would 2 useful/useless rear seats be a benefit or not?

I guess the rear seats might be used once in a while. But do you sacrifice top down motoring for a little more practicality? I'll have to test drive this new MX5. Any idea when the dealers will have demo cars?

There might be a few around for special events but the best guess is June at the earliest. frown

Well, I'll let you know if I ever see a human being in the back of an Evora.

IMO 2-door saloons like BMW M4 make a hell of a lot more sense than 4-seat sportscars.

Just noticed the wheels are 16s... looking good on those is a rare achievement these days.

It depends on whether you want a sportscar or not. smile

I've seen posts on PH about Evora owners using back seats for occasional short journeys. Which is what 2+2s are for - occasional use. Just seeing an Evora is a rare enough event!

For something more common - loads of people use the back seats of 911s for children.
