Can't say it's a pretty car. Maybe better in the flesh?

Any news on the Alfa/FIAT version (allegedly the same chassis)?

I guess the rear seats might be used once in a while. But do you sacrifice top down motoring for a little more practicality? I'll have to test drive this new MX5. Any idea when the dealers will have demo cars?
It's such a shame they haven't yet committed to produce the GT86/BRZ cab as that would have the market to itself (small, light, efficient, affordable, rwd, 2+2 soft top).

Back to the mx-5 - not 100% sure on the proportions (a bit squashed, like the Suzuki Cappucino IMO) so need to see it in the metal but love the fact that it's got the smallest footprint of any MX5 ever despite 25 years of crash regs improvements/comfort requirements etc (name another car where this has happened?) and that weight is not that far off the original.

I am going to buy one of these.
I am also very tempted. It just comes down to what the steering feel will be like. The recently reduced BRZ is my fall back purchase. Just the long wait until early next summer for the MX5, meh...

Yes, loved the Opel GT, don't think I ever saw one though.
There's a lovely grey LHD Opel GT on sale near my work (Loudwater), was either £8995 or £9995.
Amazing looking thing.

I need to work out how at 33 with a wife & baby, I can afford/get one of these and have no excuses. We have a Civic as a family motor, but as another little sprog wont be too far away, it'll probably mean buying something with 4 seats. frown

Well, when our kids were sprogs a decade ago, my wife had her 2-seater, I had my TVR and the family run-around was a Clio Grande - this was fine for us. You only need one car with back seats and boot...

I am 29 with a toddler and one due in Novemeber, and I have a Mkl MX5 as my daily. Its my car to go to work in, I don't take the wife or kids to work, therefore I have no need for more than 2 seats. Truth be told, I could probably do with a BAC Mono...

It'll be interesting to see how they look with some different alloys etc. I almost bought one of the older model earlier this year, but the cockpit space just wasn't big enough for me to live with. Shame, as I've always liked MX5 since their release in '88 when I had one of the first UK examples through work.

I bet these sell just as well as previous models.

That's a good point - has there been any commentary on leg or head room as that is always the issue for the taller driver. I've had a mk1 and a mk3 and I always needed an extra inch of both head and leg room.

It's odd, I'm 6'2" and have no problem at all in my 2.5.

Will be interested in a proper look at this, the mk3 is nice but feels very bloated compared to the Mk2 and 2.5 I have owned. Hopefully the smaller dimensions will have the same almost 'shrink wrapped' feeling.

First reviews are here!

We love that the cabin isn’t cluttered with a rash of buttons for various chassis controls. If you’re feeling frisky you can always switch the ESP off completely, but there’s no sport button, no adaptive suspension, no eco-mode and no switchable exhaust. Frankly, who needs them when a car feels this right, straight out the box.?

Bit of a generic review though, need an enthusiast's views!

MX5s (standard ones anyway), have never been about big power numbers.

indeed.
Although to make it more interesting i think BBR can add a few NA horses to this.
They can already get 200 from the existing 2.0 which is being carried over to the new model. so a proper sports car for under 30k

That's only the 1.5 remember. There is a 2.0 to come.

So the engineers reckon the 1.5 is the sweeter engine, and you don't get the tablet on lower models.

Less is more!
