165 bhp though? BRZ springs to mind.

I do hope its available with a bit more zoom.
Autocar says it will have 140hp 1.5l and 180hp 2.0l engines.

Although rather 'tougher' than previous versions, I like the looks, especially the rear lights.
Nice to see they still have a manual hood.
Hopefully the stupid iPad screen on the dash will be optional...
There are loads of pics of the MX-5, interior, side-on etc etc, in the Autocar article.

I seem to be incapable of publishing a functioning website link on here. Apologies.

Looks ok but a bit like an oriental "Lightning McQueen" at he front, with a hint of Surprised F type at the rear.

Looks like they've even stuck with a fairly sensible wheel size and tyre profile! thumbup

ETA: I see there is a 17" option too, both look good.

That looks really great. As soon as I saw the rear view I thought Jaguar F Type. Would certainly like to have a go in a new MX5.

Like the styling.

Don't like the idea of the steering system. We shall see.

Just seen the interior.

Another manufacturer ruining a car by sticking a stupid cheap looking screen on top of the dashboard. I hope..I really hope it isn't standard.ranting

Looks good, very S2000 from the front and a hint of Ftype even at the back?

Hope it's a good 'un

As such a base 1.5-litre model should cost around £20,000 when it hits the showrooms.

So have they stated a weight anywhere as 100kg less is good if compared to the soft top mk3, but not worth talking about if against the folding hardtop version.

But surely better to judge a car on how the acceleration feels rather than sinking into horsepower snobbery?

I had a 140hp MX5 and despite some reservations about the car, power wasn't one of them. If driven properly, it was fast enough on a twisty UK road.

It 'felt' quick accelerating on the motorway despite the fact that it wasn't comparatively, and to get the power meant you had to concentrate on keeping the engine between 5000 and 7000 rpm, which I think added to the driving experience.

So it's okay when Mazda do it but when Toyota make the gt86 everyone goes mad about the lack of turbos and power?
Never driven the Toyota and I've never been critical of its power.

I can see the argument for lightweight, small engined cars feeling slow on the motorway and dual carriageways, but then why would you be on a motorway in a fun car?

If you drive a car properly 200 bhp is enjoyable and plentiful in my opinion - In a lightweight car and on a fun road.

Edited to add: I still love high powered, heavy weight cars. If It wasn't for an imminent house purchase I would have bought an XJR. However the power needs to be there because of the size of car. My current car which is 1030kg with 125 bhp feels at least as much fun.

I thought the folding hardtop was only about 20kg heavier than the soft top?

A nice evolution and I must say it's the best looker of the family, although the MK1 will always be king.
