i thought being 4WD that the wear might have been more even across the 4 tyres, but i guess the rear drive doesn't often kick-in very much under normal driving. I am pretty sure the fronts are under 3mm now so I will check!
WARNING! Do not mention the fact that R is FWD most of the time. The resulting argument will make the lease tit-for-tat look pleasant and sane biggrin
Ooops...too late.Youve done it yourself now. Doh!

I love it when people say "calm down" as a way of trying to redress the balance during a discussion, when in fact no-one was anything but completely calm. Again, I've said I don't care how you spend your money, however many of the assertions you are making are just reductionist ste verging on conspiracy theories. You seem to be saying that people are just bumbling around being manipulated by everything they see and hear, and it's just bks sorry. There are a percentage of people that aren't very bright that will sign something they can't afford, however this is NOT a problem with finance. It may be a problem with certain companies and how things are sold by them, but many of the people who sign up and are 'victims' are just stupid. I'd personally support an IQ test as part of the credit applications process, but can you imagine the outcry? Big brother isn't making you buy a new car, sorry but i don't agree with you at all.

I can only assume a) that you are a 'victim' of finance (i.e. you were stupid and signed up to something you couldn't afford) and are now scared of it or b) that you'd never get finance because you think it's wrong across the board, which often leads to complete hypocrisy as you've probably got a mortgage, probably a credit card and so on but somehow that's OK because you "can afford those"
None of your assumptions is correct. You're a good example of why people get tired of PH. Grumpy, sensitive, patronising and desperate to make things personal.
Well said.

How does the tyres thing work? Can you get new premium brand tyres every time they wear to 3mm? If so, that's a pretty awesome perk!

ps : I earn 4.7% gross on the cash in my current account, no erosion of capital there.
TBF, £205 became £280 (which is still superb if the car materialises), so the 4.7% may also be revised. wink

Yes I have that one at 5% on the first £2,500 but you also have to pay £1,000/month at 0%...

Just did a CAP quote for TCO:
http://www.cap.co.uk/consumer/total-cost-of-motori...

Purchase price: £29,750
Road tax: £360
Fuel: £2,911.79
Depreciation: £9,925
Servicing: £175 (really?)

So they reckon about £10k over two years.

Extend it to four years and you are looking at £15,650 of depreciation, £1,393 of servicing. Around £17k.

So a fair bit cheaper to have two new ones on lease rather than buy one and trade in after two years.

The purchase price isn't realistic, though. I think the lease is cheaper but only just. I'd definitely opt for a lease if genuinely available at the prices on here.

My current ac pays 3.5% on balances up to £20k and cashback against bills. £2 monthly fee and minimum pay in of £1000 or something.

Santander? If so it's 3%, but it's still better than most savings accounts (and NISAs) at the moment.

So believe it or not I am still looking for a new car, still an indecisive bd biggrin

Spotted a few low mileage cars locally and just wanted a little feedback:

http://usedcars.volkswagen.co.uk/%7Brgen%7D/%7Bder...

Perfect colour, sunroof which I would use, and DSG - seems on paper to tick every box and be a £28K car configured as new.

No idea if it's a demo car or pre-registered but as they're 30 minutes away I'll probably go take a look - any thoughts appreciated.

For me, if you're looking at spending that money on a GT model you're mad. Surely it's worth the extra few thousand for a GTD which should retain the same difference come resale time. There are good specced less than 10k miles GTD's with Nav's on for the same price. That would be where I'd be looking.

Also, I personally would want xenon's as the halogen on Volkswagen I find are really poor.

My Mrs has one of these, a 2013 model bought second hand last year with 11k miles on it for c. £17,500 (once the £500 VW finance contribution was taken into account). We also got 3 years free servicing.

Its really well specced and actually much quicker than I expected, given its only got 150bhp.

I really like it, but its not terribly economical - we get c.45 mpg out of it in day to day driving, which is a lot less than the manufacturer figures indicate.

The interior is good and the seats comfortable, although the boot is not as big as the one in our old Focus.

Definitely worth a look, but it looks like they are asking top money for that one.
