There is a 2013 Dacia Sandero up for sale at £4299 with only 7500 miles on the clock.

It doesn't come with a sound system. No radio, CD or cassette player.

Would anyone purchase such a vehicle? First owner obviously was happy to go without sound.

In my 15 years of motoring I have never actually had the radio switched off.

I would see this as a clean slate in some ways - You could put any system you want in there! In other words, you're probably going to have to run speaker cables etc. anyway, so you can do it all properly (unless the speaker cables were already pre-wired at factory?).

I couldn't really live without a radio in my car.

It would have to be about £500 cheaper than the equivalent car with a sound system IMO

When I bought the only new car I have ever done (and ever will), I ordered it without a head unit, but with upgraded speakers. Not really the same I suppose.

Tell me it has a V8 engine and a straight-through exhaust. Dunno how they can go without any form of music for all 7500 miles. biggrin

I would buy the car IF it had a slot to fit a radio in. I often end up removing the standard headunit if it's possible and doesn't have multifunctions like satnav, anyway, as most aren't very good in terms of functionality. Primarily, I want an SD card slot AND a front USB and rear USB port. Gives me options for listening to digital music.

Cars didn't always have them people used to ride round with a "Tranny" on the passenger seat, or so my dad said, I assume he meant a radio...

I remember reading about retrofitting a Sandero with a head unit and speakers... It might even have been on aronline. But IIRC the wiring is there, it's all plug and play to pop a radio in. I'd probably do that!

As above, it's probably pre-wired ready for the drop-in option. Buy a unit and bung it in, you'll probably get a better system than whatever Dacia would have provided anyway. Tune it into Radio 4 and you're away.

Perhaps the first owner preferred to listen with earphones, it's what I do, using my phone as an MP3 player, set up to auto-answer. Haven't used the sound system in my car since I bought it.

Possibly a demo car.
Easy and cheap enough to get a radio fitted.

I recall BMW or MERC providing cars with no radio - you had to spec one.

Isn't this dangerous? I've always thought it would be, when I'm zoning with my headphones on, i forget about the world.

Fortunately it's not a problem for me, if anything it enhances my driving by keeping me happy and contented.

Nope, the music is never off in my car.

There was a couple of customers (father and son) that got us to remove the head units whenever they changed cars, I think it was to do with some strange religion they followed.

Very odd.

Bear in mind this'll be the base-spec £6k-new version, and the standard equipment didn't include any audio. For that, you have to go up the range to the next trim, at £6,800. Manual windows, too.

Back in the mid-90s, I was looking for a new co.car. Mercedes were charging about £800 for aerial/speakers/wiring on the C-class. My lease budget didn't allow options.

We work closely with companies where the employees are almost exclusively PLymouth Bretheren.

Part of their religion is that they don't watch television or listen to music.

They are very wealthy, often we see their company vehicles (Audis, VWs, Range Rovers) which have had the stereo 'deleted' right down to the roof aerial either being blanked off or never fitted.

It seems a bit mad, but there's evidence I'm not winding you up here -

Here's a picture of aforementioned vehicle:

Not sure it even has a cigarette lighter or USB connectivity. Or bluetooth.

Looks like you'd need a whole new middle dash section to get a standard size head unit in there at all!

Personally I have been conditioned to need radio/music in the car 95% of the time.
