The apology is because I know this post doesn't belong in this section but I have a question and was highly recommended asking you guys on here.

Pulled over last night by a hand held speed gun. Going too quickly in a 30 (it's two lanes, never would of guessed a 30 - apart from the sign the police officer kindly pointed out). Anywhere he tells me that I was going to quick and asks where I'm off to whilst his colleague radios in my reg plate asking for an MOT check. He then asks for my licence. As I hand it over he only has time for quick glance before handing it back and running to the car saying it's your lucky night, obviously they had an emergency call.

They have my reg plate - which is worryingly my boss' car and I was working! Hence why I don't want to wait and see if I get a ticket - panicking!

But I didn't get a ticket and he did say you're lucky.

Can I expect a ticket? Should I be fearing for my job?

Thanks and again many apologies. Will go back for reading some posts of yours!

You wont get a ticket - nothing will happen, you got away with it.

Its happened to me a couple of times, no further action taken.

I think you'll be fine! They have to issue with paper work on the spot, iirc if you are stopped by an officer rather than "caught" by a (S)camera etc!

Nope.

It's my understanding if it's a handheld one like that they have to do you there and then. Unless the handheld took pictures, but a reg isn't enough to prove who was driving.

Thanks. I hope you are right. Still gonna worry for the next 14 days!

No, you'll be fine. If it wasn't dealt with there and then at the roadside, you can rest easy.

I think you had better tell your boss just in case though.

He's been told, already had the disciplinary meeting. I just don't want up to 6 points and fine!

It sounds like you had a lucky escape, but your statement of not thinking it was a 30 limit because it was a two-lane road is a bit worrying.

There's a dual-carriageway near me, totalling six lanes. It's still a 30, because it's in a built-up area.

You seem to be suggesting that dual carriageways in built up areas must be 30. What makes you think that?

Who told your boss? Not you surely? You escaped, stop worrying and move on. J

I live near a dual carriageway that is in a residential area that is a 40 so I was shocked at the 30 limit

I felt it was best to let him know. If a letter came through the post and I hadn't told him the consequences would have been worse

that's nonsense, 'can you do something about it' at that stage you're worrying whilst working out if a solution exists to your problem plus not every potential solution is guaranteed so it's understandable to worry

Surely anyone with a problem in their life and can't do anything about would worry?

30 in a built-up area is usually the norm, and if it isn't 30, there would be a big, fk-off sign to tell you.

My point was that just because it was a road with more than one lane, it doesn't necessarily mean a higher speed limit and if there were, there would be a sign to say what it was.

If you dont get a ticket, thank your stars.

Also, keep a sharp eye out. Although I do understand some signs are hard to spot (they can be small, obscured, or you are busy looking out for other things)
