Very nice! I hope the manual gearbox finds it's way into the petrol engined models later too smile
I doubt very much that they will do a manual version as even their super sporty F-Type model is auto only and Jag will stick to their strong love for a slushbox too much I think although I appreciate the ZF gearbox is supposed to be a very good auto gearbox.

I am not talking about company cars. Jag will never be a big fleet manufacturer.

I said this car is less powerful than all of its competitors and that is disappointing
But the jaguar will be considerably lighter then the competition, which will give it equal, or better performance then its competitors. With better fuel economy and less emissions.

What makes you say that? I'd say that's clearly what they're trying to become with this car.

Looks OK to me. Have seen loads of prototypes on the M6 and always assumed they were hacked about XFs but in fact they were the real thing. Not that family ties does any harm to BMW and Audi sales.

I'm getting a bit bored of all the saloon cars launched recently which seem to adopt the same approach to rear end styling - sunken rear panel, curved built in spoiler on the boot lid, trapezoidal tail lights and upswept bumper corners.

Feel free to add to the list but so far we have;

Audi A3 Saloon
Audi A4
Audi A5
Audi A6
BMW 3 Series (just)
Ford Fusion
Honda Accord
Hyundai i40
Infiniti Q50
Jaguar XE
Kia Optima
Lexus IS
Lexus GS
Maserati Ghibli
Maserati Quattroporte
Mazda 6

I think the 99g/km diesel engine will be an enormous seller (or at least leaser). 160bhp isn't exactly going to struggle to keep up with traffic and the lower BIK rate is a significant incentive for company car people. IIRC some companies wont even allow employees to have company cars with >100g/km.

I strongly expect our work car-park to fill up with them once they go on general sale.
What other options are there for <99?

I looked once out of interest and it was just things like sub 1L mini cars but I assume things like the 116i etc are now there?

To me it seems like a milestone achievement but I'm guessing there are plenty of sub 99 cars in this size sector?

The Mrs until recently had an XF with the 160 bhp engine and at no point did it feel particularly slow, it wasn't a racing car but that's not the point. In the Alu XE it should be much better.

The marketing department need to do less about flying cars over london and actually update their website. It still says that its going to be launched on 8 September!

Generally like the looks, but those wheels look huge to me.
Does the unsprung weight of a vehicle not matter anymore? With a lower figure, the ride/handling would probably be even better than currently.

I like the idea of an aluminium body. Audi A8's were out of my range, but one of these in a few years-yes please.

Thanks. Does RWD matter though in the fleet market? Would most generic leasers know?

No and no, respectively. smile

The Volvo is definitely a competitor, albeit a slightly left-field one.

Must be difficult designing something different in the 4 door saloon category. They all look very alike I guess because of cost, dynamics and drag. Take away the grills and badges and there'll be not much to distinguish.

Got to be the most boring sector of the market, but the marketing spin / bks put on these blandmobiles always impresses me. Emperors new clothes.

As a very happy 159 owner looking to replace it, I'm completely in the market for a car like this.
It looks ace, albeit maybe a bit restrained, but that's the nature of this sector. Even BMW in it's Bangle "flame surface" days with ever more ugly cars like the E60 and E63, the contemporary 3 series was relatively conservative.

Still, this car looks very good. Nose is deffo Jaguar XF (and, as mentioned, maybe hard to distinguish), rear end does have a bit of A5 to it (though should see it in another colour to offset the lights).
What I also like about this car is that in profile it seems to aim more at the 4dr A5 and 4-series (albeit with more headroom smile).

I was hoping for a last minute "oh look, we've got the estate here as well" reveal, but alas. I hope it comes soon so I can book my test ride. I sincerely hope it's not a 3 year job like one the XF. In this segment, here on the continent, the estate/sportbreak usually outsell the sedan two to one.

The only thing I'll still miss, in nearly every car in this segment, is an interior that can hold up against the 8 yo 159. This looks nearly as bland as the 3-series from the pictures, and, dare I say it, the A4 and especially the C-class seem to do it better in my eyes.

~160bhp with 99g is very commendable, any word on the more powerful diesels? I'm looking in the 200-250bhp range.

It may have low emmisions but the power output is already down on the competitors 2.0d units

163hp from a 2 litre diesel Jag is a bit pathetic. The ZF gearbox and fairly low weight should help things but I was expecting a lot closer to 200hp
The important part here was to go below 99g, as it's a threshold in some regulations and can save you a lot of money, to offset the 10-20bhp deficit to the competitors (from the heart, C220 is 171 and 320D is 182, both have about 110g).
I see no reason why they wouldn't have a ~200bhp version of the same engine in the future, with about 120g for example.

.....and it's not less powerful than it's competitors anyway. A BMW 320d ED is 165HP (the jag 163hp) a 335i is 310hp, (the v6 jag 340hp).

it's as exciting/dull as anything else in the sector, i hope it does well for them.

As far as I know, they've just said there will be a more powerful version of that engine. I'd guess around 200bhp but that is a complete guess.

I'm looking forward to the V6 collapsing in price on the used market. Would make a lovely family car, especially if they ever fit a manual gearbox. smile

Looks great in 'S' trim, but in boggo-standard mode with small wheels and without the aggressive 'S' bumpers, it will look a touch bland. Not sure why they have put F-Type features onto a new saloon (side strakers, rear light signature) to sex it up a bit maybe...?
.
Makes Jaguar no different than Audi, Merc etc...all show the sporty versions on official launches, these are the sexy versions that will attract attention, all base versions of A4, C class and 3 series look boring in comparison .
