Doesn't photograph very well but I'll reserve judgement until I see a real one. I would certainly consider it over the German competition if I was in the market.

It amuses me how people think that a 3 series competitor is going to look nothing like a typical 4 door saloon car.
What more did you want looks wise from Jaguar?
I personally think it looks really good and is better looking than most of the generic german cars that sit in lane 2 all day long.

It would be nice if Pistonheads would attribute their photos, especially when you've specifically asked them to; that is one of mine.

Better shot of helicopter shenanigans:

I think it looks rather smart.

I generally like it but the cabin looks nowhere near as classy as the XF or XJ and what is that i see on the rear side? looks like a Hofmeister Kick to me !

Ill wait to see one in the flesh. The fact it isnt an audi, merc or bmw is enough to win for me.

Nice to see a rear wheel drive car that's not a BMW. It looks like it has a decent overhang at the front which could mean minimal understeer and a nicely balanced chassis. Question is does it drift nicely? Over to you Mr Harris!

The windscreen reminds me of this...

And the wheels remind me of this...

In fact - don't know if you ever been to Brum Symphony hall(which is just down the road from Jag, but I got a feeling they pinched the whole design from there.. just look at how the exhaust pipes are the same colour as the organ pipes. Can't be a coincidence there's a lot of red paint too.

It looks good to me, nice clean lines, clear Jaguar styling from the new language adopted by Ian Callum. It has been widely stated that all the variants people are saying are needed will be produced and lets face it, BMW and Merc had very limited ranges for the 3-series and C class when they introduced the latest versions despite having many years experience of cars of this size to build from so Jag aren't unusual in the limited initial range.

Driving impressions are what will matter next but only a small percentage of buyers will really be concerned - provided basic reviews are favourable looks and image will be most important in the majority of cases and there doesn't seem to be much to criticise there, along with great emissions stats for the fleet buyers.

Well done Jaguar.

Had one of the very first x types in Northern Ireland and have a huge soft spot for Jaguar but for some reason this has absolutely no appeal whatsoever.
Having said that I think I may be in a minority of 1 in thinking that the XF is a hideous looking thing.

When they started teasing shots I said that it looked too similar to the XF which, whilst a lovely car, is in the back end of it's lifecycle already. This car looks good now but I'm not sure how it will stay competitive until 2023 when it looks so current.

Lets face it, Jaguar were never going to produce anything extreme for the most conservative market segment of them all. Yes it looks a bit Audi, yes it looks a bit BMW, and yes it looks a bit Mondeo. It would, these are it's peers. Jaguar can get a bit braver in design when the public is more familiar with it. Personally, I have to say that I think it looks better than the photocopied Audi and post-Bangle BMWs (which I quite like). Designed and built in the UK, with British engines. RWD (and forthcoming 4WD) with genuinely interesting powerplants (not that most of the market will take those) and hopefully lighter than it's competitors. C'mon guys. RWD with the super charged V6 from the F-Type for crying out loud!

It is always going to get Disgusted of Chelmsford whining about how its this, or isn't that. Ten, twenty or thirty years ago, who would have bet that Jaguar would be still around, let alone making cars like this? Good enough to have people complaining that its too much like the Germans.

The detail styling is really pretty tasteless IMO. Stupid fake air scoops up front (how many square feet of function less plastic mesh is that?), some strange pseudo-aero holes on the side, and the light clusters front and aft just look a bit too much like Audi's idea of "aggro-cool".

Pity, this turns a very nicely proportioned car into an angry faced generic rep-mobile, German style.

Hope it drives well. Because this genre needs some alternatives.

Wow, that interior is not good! That alone would put me off.

Also, £27k for the entry model? Thats £3.5k more than a 3 series!

I'm assuming this isn't a Mondeo in disguise - ironically it LOOKS like one.

My first reaction was also 'Hillman Avenger' but I may be going insane there ;0

Wait, what?

It's still expensive to build it though, and financial analysts who pore over JLR's spending reckon that the saloon XE in its most popular diesel form won't be profitable

Jeezus some people are blind. I think it loooks good. OF COURSE it looks like other cars. It has the same number of wheels, it's roughly the same size etc. Most modern cars look very similar.

Think the XE looks very pretty, just different enough to be interesting without being different for difference sake, or looking like something it made back in the 1960s.

Looks great, and the opinion of those in this thread seem to indicate it may be popular, great to have a Jag in this segment again, hopefully it can perform as well as it looks!

Look at the window aperture, the black highline, the way the rear wheels sit in the arches, the short high tail, the 1.5deg nose down rake, all classic M3 signatures that JLR have sensibly copied for their car!

It's even got wheels too, the sly bds!
LOL. Joke aside the fact the above poster thought to compare a standard Jag to a the ultimate M3 says alot. The more I look at this Jag, the more I like it. Sleek, with taught lines and attractive details.

I can only imagine that it will look better in the flesh.
