When this was going on, so many people caught on to it across the world it brought the site down.
Think there was a thread on here too.

the short version is it appears he sold the chassis in 2009 and broke the car for spares but continues to trade in potentially dodgy motors.

Great cars. Knew about the VXR when new, but I had forgotten about it.
One thing worth noting in the piece was the casual reference to the so-called 'Vauxhall brand prejudice'. This should NOT be referred to on a site like this! I sincerely hope none of these tw@ts are here! This eminates from, (and I'm going to have to put two words together that when doing so make my skin crawl and my buttocks clench), 'Top Gear'. Clarkson made this reference back in the mid-nineties apropos of nothing. He criticized ALL rep-mobiles as 'BORING!', like a 15 year old, and because the so-called 'test' was focussed upon the contemporary Vectra, Vauxhall imediately had an image problem, even though this was more about Clarkson creating a 'laddish' image for himself at the time. (He wants to rewrite that now and become a toff????). Acolytes such as Adrian Simpson, and a few others from 'yesterday's motoring media' jumped aboard, and as Clarkson's reputation deminished, the VX prejudice grew............. out of nothing! Now, mostly because of this, we have a generation, a lot of whom haven't even got a licence FFS, who deride the Vauxhall brand.
No, they're not Mercedes, but if you ever hear anyone deriding the brand rather too vociferously, know what you're dealing with.............. a 'Top Gear Fan'!

The image that Vauxhall has isn't 100% down to top gear at all. They don't help themselves by churning out mediocre stuff aimed squarely at the 'middle market'. Their cars attract chavs and people who don't really care about cars. Aside from the VX220 and the Monaro, I can't think of any Vauxhall that I would've wanted over the past 20 years, boring boring boring!

Vauxhall VX220 / Opel Speeedster fun:
The VX 220 is a potent car. The VXR is a riot. Some say this is a better drive than the Lotus.
Only 7000 were built. Rare stuff. And made for the tracks.
147 brake for the NA one, 200 for the turbo ed four.
With a weight well under 900 kgs a VX220 will eat a 911.
Opel / Vauxhall ended production to continue with the Opel GT ... which is a cruiser #sigh

Back to the actual Vauxhall VXR220: Spotted thread and it look nice, speedlines are great looking wheels too. Shame to hide them in black though!

Looks fantastic in red. Strong resemblance to the Europa and is visually intriguing. I have always liked these cars and have only seen a few over the years, mostly at petrol stations. Would love a ride in one some day.
All but 4 of the VXRs were red, my personal favourite is the Moonland one..And the Europa was built to make use of the surplus VX220 chassis and the production line that was left idle when Vauxhall pulled the plug on the VX220..
