Seriously.....get the car back and put it down to experience.

It's only a couple of hundred quid, which is a shame, but worse things happen in life.

Use the street view functionality on Google maps to look for the car in the streets around the terminal...
Really?
Actually - no - best wait till morning - it's dark now.
hehe
You might laugh, a few years ago someone at worked asked for permission to install Google Earth, so she could see if a customer was still in possesion of an item they hired from us. I had to politely tell her that it wasn't a real time satellite view!

I would imagine the car has already been parted out, netting the "buyer" more than £100.
The text about leaving it at a ferry terminal is just a red herring t give them a bit more time and so they can claim someone at the docks must have knicked it.
Where are the keys? In the ignition?

Yep, that. It won't be at the ferry terminal. Buyer got the thing for £100. No real personal details given, burner phone has been burned, car gone, seller shafted.

Hand some people an opportunity and they will run with it.

I don't care how far away a car is, I always stand in front of it before considering buying it, pay for it there and then and always sign the V5 there and then. What about a receipt, proof of sale, proof of purchase etc.
This.

In what world do you call up a busy freight port switchboard and ask someone to walk round the entire site until they find a car with the keys in it (or not...) and drive it onto a boat?

The Western Isles. He's probably related to half the people at the port.

That's the point. It isn't in the Western Isles, it's allegedly in a port on the mainland somewhere.

I watched an episode (old one) of traffic cops recently. They came across an "abandoned" vehicle at a ferry port. They were about to remove it under the terrorism act.... If the car is at the ferry port and not as others have suggested, then it wouldn't surprise me if this or something similar happens to it.

The car isn't really at the ferry terminal you think it's at, it really is in a container at felixstow ready to be loaded onto the next return banana boat to bongo bongo land.

You've been had m'lad....

This is what I was thinking.... The downside will be the difficulty in "viewing" the car with the keys inside.......

And it needs to be sold before next Thursday to avoid the import taxes

Not many threads have me in tears, but this is one of them.

Quality!

Perhaps it should be in legendary threads...
