Agreed! Can I be a boring git and ask whether you can still get parts to run a 928? I was really up for a ur quattro but the lack of spares makes it a non starter.

Thank you to everyone that liked my post, and apologies for rambling on...

Ought to mention that a few weeks later I managed to have a chat with the owner, apparently he was a high mileage user who had owned 911s in the past, but found them to be very demanding, so at the end of a knackering day wasn't the best car to drive home in. The 928 provided the luxurious lazy long-distance mile eating mode when required, and the insane rip snorting psycho mode as and when necessary. Seem to remember he owned several manual 928s and I think an auto. Is a long time ago so my memory is fading.

As regards to 928 parts nowadays, there is a flourishing supply of parts and masses of help and knowledge both here and in the USA for the 928. For the UK visit www.928.org.uk and sign up to their daily mailing list. For info and spares from the USA visit http://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum-69/

I take my 928 down to Paul Anderson in Stroud for servicing and other maintenance issues, he's one of the most well known 928 specialists in the country, but there are others further north who are equally capable. Most of the official Porsche Dealers tend to be out of their depth with the 928s because production ceased around 1994/95 and most mechanics only know about the 911 range.

I've not really had to purchase many 928 spare parts since my purchase last year but I don't drive that many miles in it per year. I keep the drive for special occasions - like when the sun comes out smile

The thing is that driving a 928 is very addictive, so what starts out as a one mile round trip for a pint of milk ends up being 25 miles... or more...

If you're interested, I will be driving over to the Griffin's Head Pub in Papplewick, Nottingham this Wednesday night (17 Sept) for the Classic and Sports-car meet should you wish to take a look at my red 1990 928 S4. Will be down at approx 6pm - 6.20pm if the weather is dry (don't do rain). Will probably be one of the last classic car meetings for the year due to the nights closing in and the wet weather looming!!!

That back end looks so ungainly in those photos. It's like looking at an AMC Pacer. And the interior, just vile.
