whilst it's good that BMW have released such vehicles as the i8 and it really is the first sporty plug in hybrid I really think there's too much of a jizzfest over them both.
The electric i3 is a marginally better all rounder than a Nissan Leaf. It's hardly ground breaking or industry defining like I've seen a lot claim it to be. The only major difference seems to be that it's ugly?
The Ampera is decent enough for what it's designed and the Twizy is a right laugh. Zoe is similar to leaf.... the only one I've driven that I thought was a bit crap was the Renault Fluenze..... 55 mile range.
Or am I missing a massive breakthrough from BMW that I've not seen reported anywhere?

Steve Sutcliffe said the real world mpg was very high and a motorway cruise he averaged over 60mpg over a long drive iirc
Do you have a link to that? I'd be interested to read it. If the car can do 60mpg at motorways speeds with no overall battery charge loss that is indeed very impressive. kambites said:

Black with blue. Wasn't keen on the blue bits or the winglet things around the rear window.
It sounded glorious when it accelerated past me and the quite spooky when I overtook it and it was so quiet.
It was being driven in a very schizophrenic manner. Maybe he was watching the MPG meter and backing out or was intimidated by my Clio.
I wish I'd read this thread first though so I could appreciate the rear end more.

The i3 and i8 are the first EVs to have blue and white circular badges and the letters B, M and W on the back. The electric i3 is a marginally better all rounder than a Nissan Leaf. Also saw one yesterday. Doors up, chap taking a photo with the Bishop's Stortford station charging point in view. Probably not a pro as he'd chosen to take the photos in rush hour when there were hordes of people obscuring the charging point.
A white/blue one? If so, likely to be the Elms demo. I may have been persuaded to put a deposit down on one on the basis of that car - they had it at the TBSHS Jobbers Wood rugby playing fields (Elms sponsor school sports at TBSHS) last weekend..I'm going to go against the majority of opinion here. I saw one of these on the road a couple of days ago and I really don't like the way it looks at all. Maybe not a full but certainly a definite !!
Far too much bling, too many wacky angles, some sticky-out bits that don't serve any purpose and of course the 'delivery room' rear end! (Maybe it'll be a favourite with midwives in a few years time)? If ever there was a car that's trying way too hard, this is it. Like anything that's trying to be too 'now', it's also likely to age quickly and badly along with the 'cutting-edge' tech. 'New' technology is almost always out of date already by the time it's released.
Cynical, exploitative, overpriced, fugly and pointless (because it's going in the wrong direction, future-of-the-car wise). Definitely not for me thanks.
