What made Colin McRae a champion also caused the accident.

He was a massive risk taker.
Exactly, and if he had only killed himself then yes, brand him a hero, a legend, all the clichés anyone can think of, but he didn’t, he was irresponsible, took risks with other peoples lives and they all paid the price for his irresponsible actions.

So no, fk "legend" and "Hero" the man was a tt
What's your opinion of this?

The adults standing in front of an oncoming rally car made a decision to knowingly put their lives in danger. Their call. Daft fkers that they are. It is also up to the rally drivers to decide how much danger they are willing to accept.

However five year old children put in a situation don't have the experience or understanding to make life saving decisions for themselves. Even if they could mentally judge the dangers, it would ultimately be up to their parents to decide for them. Not that any fit parent would allow their child to be put in obvious harms way.

No one could ever deny he was a world class driving talent.

The point is you can't eulogise about him as a person when he was responsible for 3 deaths.

I think there might be one or two kids in that crowd.

I don't really have an opinion on McRae's accident, except it was sad.

My point is that if you removed every driver that has taken what any sane person would consider ridiculous risk from motorsport, there wouldn't be much left. It's a sport that attracts and rewards people who take extreme risks.

Yes, where those risks are willingly accepted on their own behalf.

I think that risk takers might have a completely skewed perspective though, it influences every part of their lives. So a motorsport legends kids will be allowed, encouraged even, to climb higher trees than what most people would deem acceptable.

But one of the children who died was not his, and he did not seek the parents' permission.

Sorry but that is unforgiveable.

This sums it up for me.

Tragic that he took others with his risk taking.

Richard Burns is the driver that should receive hero status, always dignified, even to the endfrown

Agreed and he is a hero to many for all the right reasons.
