According to Carl of Elite Legal Services the £1500 that was being held on file for my "accident" 3 years ago in which no one sustained any injuries has nothing to do with increasing insurance costs, it's the fact that 90% of accidents involve uninsured drivers!!

Another less known fact is that any claim over £300 has also been proven to cause an injury. I must have been suffering with my non injury for years, just not noticed it!

Absolute joke that these companies get away with making such calls.

I keep getting calls about an accident I was involved in 2 years ago when a guy opened his door as I drove past. The door clipped the rear wheel arch putting a small dint in it. The guy admitted full liability as he was illegally parked and wind took the door out of his hand. They keep calling saying I'm entitled to claim for an injury. When I tell them it was over two years ago they say "it can take a long time for you to notice the injury" no wonder people are claiming for anything these companies are almost bullying you in to making a claim.

There's a comment on one of the Mercedes forum today from a poster who got one of these calls and they told him if he didn't claim the money then it would go to his insurance company. Both parties were insured with the same company!

He should have claimed - serve the idiots right for passing on his details.

I have never understood this - selling details to another party who are only eventually going to come back after you for some sort of payment (or is it the body shops etc?)

That's because you don't understand it. There are hundreds of people only too happy to sell on your details, of which insurers are one in lot (but not all) cases. Your insurer doesn't pay out for your injury, the other driver's insurer does.

The cold callers are more likely to have obtained the details via a comparison site as you enter all of your details along with contact details and details of any accidents.

Failing that the garage who repaired the car

They don't need to know anything anyway, the scum are quite happy to go fishing for leads with cold calls. "Our records show you have worked in industry" - erm, no, fk off.

It's all cold leads, nothing to do with actual accidents you've been involved in. I spent ten minutes on the phone to one talking about my accident, giving them the details of my injury (broken hand) before they bothered to ask who was to blame for it (me) and how it happened (part of my bicycle fell off through my own lack of maintenance).

I figure that my time spent on the phone costs them time when they could be persuading someone to actually put in a claim, so costs them money.
