I really don't understand the point of buying a huge-engined model of what's fundamentally a cheaper car. For that sort of money I'd want something more "special".

Or to put it another way, I'd buy the bottom of the range of a better car rather than something loaded with all the bells and whistles.
Does not compute in context. The C-class is a far better base for a sports saloon. If you step up to an E-class, you leave the world of sports saloons behind and enter the world of the barge. If you prefer luxury (modest as it may be at that price level), I agree with you, as an E is a nicer place to sit, otherwise, what is the point you are making?

guys I have had the e92, rs5 and now c63 coupe with performance pack ..... there really is no comparison between the latter and the first two ..... its totally different class.

I use the c63 as every day driver bar the ridiculous fuel range ( what do u expect ? sort of a needless point to make but deep down annoys owners ) hard to see how there is a better and more engaging every day driver/sports car on the market ....... ps also have two kid seats in back and plenty of room for buggies and all that goes with it in boot.

I honestly think looking on the used approved merc website its hard to see a better vfm/enjoyable car on the market , will put a smile on your face every day both driving it and looking at it

its impossible to hate this car if owned

cheers

VXR8. Also a spacious 4 door with a large boot, good ride / handling compromise (softer than the MB though) and an epic sounding 6.2 litre V8.

To its benefit, it's also better on fuel, much cheaper (to run and buy) and has a manual option. It is also much rarer and doesn't look like anything else on the road so few people know what it is (good or bad depending on your personality).

If it has to be German though, then yep, C63 all the way, love 'em hehe

what are these tings like when the road gets a bit cold and slippery?
Any worse than a "normal" RWD car?

Well, in my experience, 25000 miles in 2 versions of the car, standard & perf pack, the traction control is pretty good...

I had one moment coming off an interchange and crossing over the lorry groove marks in the carriage way, it was when it rained after it had been hot and sunny, you know - surface like glass...

I had a plus and minus 45 degree tank slapper, I had only brushed the accelerator, that was about 3 weeks after I got my 1st '63...

From that day to this (5 years of ownership) I have never turned the traction off...

It's not like a scooby / Evo or such like, for roads like the B4077 (stow on the wold area) scoobies, Evo's RS4's etc are much safer weapon's in all conditions...

Rain / wet / greasy - doesn't stop all fun, but you know, torque, weight, sliding, finance costs, insurance premiums, hospital stays, wife etc, all these things have an influence...

It's not like a 106 rallye, once the '63 starts moving around, the V8 lump has some mass to it...

Ace - thanks for the feedback.
I want one of these so much, it hurts. Even more so that someone down the road from me has a 13 reg one, in the perfect spec (Estate, with leather and xenons - that's pretty much it)

Yeah, fuel consumption as a 'company car'...

Well in my company - the 'company car HR police' got hold of the fact that I was entering 2-300 quid a week in company car fuel bills...

They started 'inventing rules'... Green image, bla bla... No one needs more than a 3.5 litre car, not even the CEO...

So I played ball for a bit, kept my head down, like a good corporate soldier - then eureka...!

I bought a fiat 500 twinair, averaged the CC of both vehicles, averaged the fuel consumption & ex's claims...

Put THAT in your spreadsheet...!

;-))

One 'executive' said to me - 'of course the problem with THOSE CARS' is that they have no pedigree, don't handle and are not real performance cars....
wait, why did you do that? you should of found the most powerful 3.5l car you could!

I think I must be Alex Lomas in a parallel universe...
Him:
Pre-facelift silver C63 Estate (the wife's) and F30 320d Saloon
Me (or is it him in the other universe?):
Pre-facelift silver C63 Saloon (also the wife's) and F31 320d Estate

Spooky.

No mention of C63s eating the rear tyres every 5-6k miles? All part of the charm. smile

Hello! wavey

On the topic of fuel, it always amuses me that the car gets a little testy if you don't immediately fill up once the red fuel light comes on. Que the Teutonic iconography that reminds you what you must do, just in case you have suffered memory loss sometime in the last 200mi:

Or...perhaps the suggestion is your might as well leave the nozzle permanently in the filler neck as you'll be back very soon anyway?

"How do you justify it to yourself? "I worked very hard, focused on the achieving the car (I had a big picture of one on my desk for over a year to keep me motivated) and it gives me huge pleasure. Cars and driving are my 'thing' and as life is about trying to do more of the things that make you happy, this is how I justify it to myself. The lease cost is £811p/m which I think is reasonable, which helps, but I try not to think about the c.£400-£500 fuel bill every month!"

I replied - 'the main problem with my car is hitting other vehicles in the back as we both accelerate - because they can't get out of the way quick enough'...
I hope you didn't actually say that.

How quick do you think it should be?
It easily throws down the road quicker than almost anythin, non-tuned, this side of supercar. In some cases it's on par with them.

I'd go as far to say that the latest gen C-Class has done well enough to modernise itself and head into a younger age bracket.

Overpricing? I don't think £56k is/was a lot to ask for a C63. Mine was pretty loaded for stock (COMAND, Pano roof, elec memory seats, intelligent lights blah blah).

Not sure where the lack of performance stems from either? 0-100mph in 9.7 secs in a stock 451bhp RWD car isn't too shabby considering it's age and weight.

It is a great daily if you can excuse the mpg.

Lamboman is a troll.

NOBODY thinks the C63 isn't more than adequately (and, in fact, absurdly) fast. A more interesting argument would be as to whether or not it is too fast, rather than not fast enough.

Agreed. I used to say "I'll never be old enough to own a Mercedes" yet now I think they're changing.

Mind you, I'm probably getting older too....

Hi All

Can you guys recommend a reliable AMG garage near London/Surrey/Essex for service (I don't mind travelling for the right garage).

Interesting this thread popping up, have been strongly considering one of these as you can now pick up a C63 AMG Coupe for under £30k. Seems a like a hell of a lot of car for the money, they haven't held their value very well at all.

Interested to hear of any owners who've been running one for a few years, how do you find living with it day-to-day?
