I'm wonder how many of Ferrari's customers care in the slightest about the cars being fuel efficient. Not very many I'd except. Is their a good reason why they're putting a lot of effort into improving fuel efficiency? Is it for Euro 6 regs?

If round my way I currently see a brand new Ferrari once every 10 days, now I'll see one once a week.

No biggie.

In the meantime, they'll make a fortune. Their prerogative.

IIRC of they don't comply to regulations they get fined massively for every car they sell.

10,000 units is nothing in an increasingly geographically spread market for supercars.
That's the key point I think. Years ago they were selling 4000 cars a year mostly to EU/USA/Middle East, the market in Russia, China and other Asian countries has increased to absorb the extra cars they now build.

Why change at all, Ferrari was doing very well under LdM. I'm not keen on this new guy messing with Ferrari at all, sounds greedy.

I didn't think Euro 6 had anything to do with fuel economy? In fact I thought Euro 6 was exactly the same as Euro 5 for petrol powered passenger cars.

In which case they end up with an equation between do they lose more customers by putting the costs of the fines on the price of the cars.Or do they lose more customers by turning the cars into a politically correct parody when those customers walk away and buy a classic Ferrari instead.

Fuel economy is a funny one, considering the performance potential. But even so, look at what they can do with energy recovery and turbos NOW. They went from using 170 litres of fuel, to 100 litres of fuel, for a race in F1. That is a massive efficiency gain.

But any which way you look at it, Ferrari is a brand, not just a car. They are, arguably, the worlds most recognised brand. Whether they happen to sell a few more units into growing economies like China, Brazil, India or Russia, won't make much difference to the average buyer in the UK.

And I do agree with the F1 connection; its vital. So much so, that we've seen the pressure LdM was under has seen him go. Lets not forget that Ferrari already went through dark times, with no F1 drivers champion between 1979 and 2000. Enzo Ferrari was looking after LdM during much of that time, so those lack of results were swept under the carpet, but in recent times with modern management, the lack of results in the last 7 years was just too much. So expect a big shake up in F1, which will probably also see a difference in approach for the road cars, as any potential transfer of racing to road (not just tech, but kudos / brand recognition) is leveraged.

They're a business, and they need to make money. Any marketing person will tell you that.

Nothing is sacred anymore.
All because of an imaginary (IMO) belief that man is responsible for climate change).

Sometimes this modern world makes me weep.
