No no, you don't understand. This is the internet. We must collectively curl out a steaming turd on it from a great height from the safety of our keyboards.

Its definitely sounding that way.

Its a thread about BOTB... nobody would have cared if you were up front about working there.
You are the only one carrying on about the company. Let it go. You are looking sad and more than a little jealous.

OP. Great result. Have to be happy with that. Stunning motor.

The full competition seems a bit of an 'idiot tax' business model. Looking on their website, it doesn't seem to disclose any sort of info on how likely you are to win.

Wouldn't you be better off just spending the £20 on lottery tickets? Thats an idiot tax too but at least you (presumably) have a far better chance of coming out of that one ahead?
I take it you are aware of the difference between a tax and a bit of fun? I pay income tax and council tax because I have to, not because it's a bit of a laugh and I might end up with a nice car on the drive. Same with Euromillions - if I pull the trigger on spending £2 on a ticket once the jackpot gets interesting, I don't expect to win, I'd like to win. My future happiness and success is not based on me winning the prize and I'm not sad if I don't, but fk me I'd be delighted if I won.

Well now the lad has won the Maserati, he can also push the button on £20 worth of lottery tickets on Friday. By your reckoning he should win.

I say well done to the OP - this is supposed to be a website for car fans isn't it? The fella has just won a bloody gorgeous car and there are people lining up to tell him he's an idiot or criticising the BOTB company for wanting to make a profit. The capitalist bds.

OP - did you have to take the car or did you get the option of the cash?

I've had a go at winning a Ferrari years ago, I paid my idiot tax of £5 but didn't win sadly!

KFC is coming across as a grumpy git, people do things for a bit of fun, and he has come onto the thread like a succubus and sucked all the fun out of something that is a bit of escaposm fun, not an idiot tax..

When I played BOTB I decided the odds of winning were much higher than winning any decent amount on the lottery (which I don't play), but it's interesting to read other people's perspectives.

Yes the spot the balls aspect is necessary for getting around the gambling laws, making it a "game of skill". There's not really much skill involved of course, but at the same time it's not as if every pixel on the screen is equally likely to give you a win, so it's not just a raffle either.

By spending a few minutes studying the image and trying to decide where the players are looking towards you increase your chances by finding the most logical area for the ball to be. In my case I won a few quid back for being close to the mark, which made me feel that it was a fair system as the judges had obviously chosen the logical area too. I know nothing about football (dislike it, infact).

My tip would be to access the site via Quidco. When I played, Quidco were doing 20% cashback, plus a 10% voucher code which is what made me give it a try. BOTB also have an enticing pricing model where the ticket price drops considerably if you buy several at once. So in my case I bought about 10 tickets for a 911 50th anniversary edition for about £35 to £40 during the run up to Christmas.

OP and winner here..
Thanks for all the congrats guys.
I'm still buzzing from yesterday and have a bit of a sore head ;-)
Ok this is what happened,
Last month I had an e-mail offering a free go (worth £5) and i got quite close.
So being a bit down after my poor Alfa GTV suffered from the dreaded grot and failing the MOT I had to sell it and therefore decided to "treat" myself to a few goes on the comp that i won.
I did 5 goes for under £40 trying for the Mazzer, Alfa 4c & Jag F-Type V6S.
And thats it, I don't spend hundreds of pounds gambling each month (have family to look after) It was just a bit of fun with a chance to win one of my dream cars.
You have to try and guess where the panel of judges think the ball is (not where the actual ball is)
The car shown and presented is a dealer demo, today I'm now waiting for a call to either spec my own car (colour etc) or I take a cash prize instead.
Thanks again
Darren

Have you decided which? A choice I wouldn't mind having to make!

Nice work Darren, well done!

Just out of interest, did you/do you get to drive the dealer demo to see what you like/don't like before you decide what to do? I guess with a "random" car win, you may be too tall/too short/ etc to enjoy it which would steer you towards the cash?

Or of course you might have your own dream car which you'd rather buy!

And congratulations from me OP.....although it means I didn't win it this month frown

I buy a ticket or two monthly and it's nice to spend 30 minutes browsing the cars and deciding what I'd like to add to the fleet each month!

It's good to see a car enthusiast win, it seems the most popular car for people to choose is the Evoque....

Im not jealous at all, I just find the business model a little puzzling/interesting. I'm happy for the OP it looks like a decent car.

I wonder how many people take the cash. It might seem like a good idea taking a new Ferrari or something but if you couldn't afford it in the first place then its going to be hugely expensive to try and run it for 12 months then sell it and take that 'drive it off the forecourt' massive hit. Moreso if you can spec it in any colour/spec.... it should be relatively easy to sell it on quickly to someone who actually wants one and can also spec it.

like the way people are surprised that lotteries are designed to make money... also like the way someone suggested putting the same money on the national lottery, like that's in some way different to this! Anyway, it's a tax on the stupid right up till you win a fking maserati eh?
How is the lottery any different? Its a game of chance. The lottery gives you a significantly better chance of a return on it. They're both games of chance, but the odds on one are ridiculous. The fact that one person making a poor choice, still ends up winning a maserati doesn't alter the fact its an idiot tax business model.

I don't have any problem with it, like I say its a nice business model. Just purely from a user point of view I can't understand why anyone would possibly sit at home on their PC and play it. Throwing a fiver in while you're stuck in an airport lounge and looking at the Lambo or whatever physically in front of you is a different ballgame altogether though.
The lottery isn't any different. If you were a numbers man then I'm sure you could compare the odds, however you don't seem to be saying that, you seem to be saying it's stupid regardless, even though this fellah just won a brand new Maserati. I'm not foolish enough to think that changes anything though, it's still very unlikely you would win. However continuing to say it's stupid when a massive prize has been won, well that's just sour grapes. Would you try and convince a Euromillions lottery winner the same thing? Also you've undermined your whole argument by saying it's stupid to play at home but fine to play at an airport! Like location matters?!
