So my company car went in for a service, and was pleased to be given a 5 door m135i with the eight speed auto as a loan car for the day.......what a car!

My thoughts:

Not a massive fan of the looks, although in metallic grey I didn't hate it either.
Liked the interior, and I'd say it had as much useable space as my current E90
Ride quality, well of course it was firm, but also very well damped so I could live with that as a daily
Brakes strong
Steering responsive, felt like a very agile car
DAB was good
Fuel economy, hmmm, it would take a lot of self restraint to get near some of the headline figures I've read for these
Interior noise, general road noise at a motorway cruise was a standout point, a little higher than I'd expect.
Do these pump artificial noise into the cabin or have I made that up? Very loud under acceleration, inside at least. II liked it to be honest.
That engine/box combo, wow. Very impressive. I don't think I'd need any more on the road in all honesty,. Gearbox was a peach, so much so that I would not even consider a manual, as the auto suits the engine so well.
I didn't find my self using the paddles at all as it was hard to better the way the box went about its business.

Overall I loved it, most of the appeal was that they've put that engine in a 1 series, I don't think the same engine in one of the coupes appeals quite as much.

If I didn't think it would be too much of a step for the wife from her fiat 500, I'd be looking at some of the rather tempting deals I've seen for these. Damn company car scheme!!!!

Can you not release yourself from the scheme and get a car allowance instead?

It's what allowed SWMBO to get a nice V8 Jag wink

Nah, the scheme is 318d touring, 320d saloon, auto or manual, all with pro nav and which shade of grey black or blue do you want.

Could be worse I suppose.

His company car scheme could be replaced with a bus and train season ticket and a walk to work scheme to save the planet and increase his fitness in a happy, clappy sort of way.

Compared to sitting on a bus with a drunk who has his hand down his pants, which was my last public transport experience, a brand new BMW 318d is very nice.

Just a peach of on engine. No matter if it's in a 1er up to a 5er.

The new replacement engine will be coming next year. Fingers crossed it's as good.

Shame OP is restricted to company cars. Not a perk if forced into certain cars.

"a drunk who has his hand down his pants": Do you mean pubic transport?

But at least he ended up with a BMW, 318d isn't too bad (it's not a 316d) and it has pro Nav. My previous company forced people with company cars into a Toyota Avensis. I know which I'd rather have...

Love these, also think they're pretty good at blending in whilst in hatchback format. Of course they have big flashy wheels and spoilers etc. but a lot of people don't recognise them as being anything more than a boggo 1-series. Perhaps the one advantage of the lesser models being so 'glitzy'?

Just need a bit more money now as my current car is worth about as much as a set of car mats for an M135i!!

Had mine 3 weeks now, I may be in a tiny minority but I actually think it looks good, especially in 3 door form, i think its got a good mix of understated and a sporty.

The engine is magnificent, Ive got a manual so can't comment on the auto box. It is very very quick, the sort of quick that you don't realise how quick you are going if you know what I mean.

It is a great little car but.... I'm glad I've only got it on a 2 year lease as I think I will be bored of it by then, its just not 'special' enough if you now what I mean??

Oh and the pro nav is very good indeed.
