Who cares if your open drive aids someone in turning their car ? !
The sort of tt who needs to use the extra space of someone's private drive is the sort of person who's likely to accidentally clip your wall and fk off afterwards. I speak from experience.
yes

My previous house was near the end of a cul-de-sac, and the only house with a drive. I lost count of the times my brick gate post was knocked over. Only one was caught, a delivery driver, thanks to an alert neighbour.
+1 The road & driveway obviously still wasn't enough room as the tw@ drove over some of my plants as well on more than one occasion. If you can't execute a basic maneuver using the full width of the road outside my house maybe driving isn't for you!?.

I installed automatic bollards to stop the the ones who couldn't be bothered to drive 20 yds up the road to the turning circle. They quite often would do a drive through.
Came home not long after they were installed to find scratch marks on them, someone had hit them rofl

Came home to this one day..

You considered it worthy of a photo?
Wife sent me the photo while at work.

Wheel spinning on a stone driveway, while there are cars parked on it, isn't a nice way to treat someone's drive you are using to turn in.

Im struggling to see the issue here ... no damage was done, no sausages hammered, no stairs dominated, no pets beasted, no crisps pissed in, etc. - people need to get a grip of themselves
Although I fully agree its good to have a thick skin, I always wonder where the "no harm done?" attitude draws the line?

What is someone parked on the driveway for the day , no harm is technically done there either (nor is it illegal)? Or if someone decides to camp out on your front lawn. Again, no real world harm is being done?

For me, the point isn't that they have done anything wrong, its that they have broken convention. Breaking convention can be dangerous - its the reason noone bats an eye lid to the chaotic driving style in places like India, because its the convention and expected (although it might not be right , at least it will be planned for).

Someone entering your driveway usually makes you jump out to take a look because it breaks convention. As a one off its no big deal, but if people do it often your guard may be let down over time and the security of your property reduced somewhat. Neighbours who keep an eye on other houses will no longer bat an eye lid to strangers they don't recognize entering your property boundary etc.

Similar to the Road self-policing thread - although I don't fully agree with the OP in that case, I also don't think people should allow habitual queue jumpers in because "no harm is done". Because there is harm done - time is precious and you can easily get caught in a string of traffic lights for the sake of (even) one queue jumper. And for those who have made a genuine error, they usually don't accelerate hard into a gap and are easy to spot as they tend to approach cautiously and with the indicator flashing for some time - worst case, they will need to follow the lane they are in and amend their route - its their bad.

Came home recently, pulled into my drive and someone else was using it so I just held down my horn to see if anyone came out and when they didn't blocked them in, threatened to call the police before I realized they weren't doing anything nefarious.
What some stranger had just parked their car on your driveway and disappeared ? You had no knowledge of who they were ? How very bizarre.

Did you ever see them ?

I once had a pizza delivery guy park on my driveway to deliver the pizza. Afterwards he sat in his car and had his lunch before driving off.

Strange, but no harm done.

If you don't want people parking/turning in your drive, close the sodding gates.
If there aren't gates, fit some.

I have gates. I don't close them, because then I would have to open and close them every time I left or returned to the house, and that would be a massive pain in the arse. But then I don't have people turning in my drive.

I gather it can be done automagically using electrickery these days.

Yep. It's hard to say that spending thousands so you can press a button rather than get out of the car to open the gates is anything but laziness.

They're not really that sort of gates. It's not really that sort of house. But, yeah, probably a good solution for a McMansion.

Driving a car is lazy, where do you draw the line.

Yep, taking the car for a journey that could easily be done on foot or by bicycle IS lazy. Millions do it - millions are lazy...

This should not be news.

Or not walking to a bus stop or using a train. Everyone is lazy at times.

Yep. Some more so than others. Then we all wonder why we're unfit.
