RE: Shed Of The Week: Toyota Supra
Discussion
Great looking car. I once did a course at work with a lad who had a Saab 9-5. I was driving a Volvo S60 at the time, and we both chatted about how pleased we were with our Swedish cars. I bumped into him again at work about a month later, I had bought an MR2 Turbo and he had a silver 3.0 N/A Supra. He'd only had his licence for a year too! Good lad.

My old man still has his. White with full leather, aftermarket Momo wheels but otherwise totally original. 3.0 turbo manual with 50ish thousand miles iirc. Two owners, garaged for its entire life. It must be one of the best examples left really.
It doesn't get used now, so I've toyed with the idea of either stripping it and taking it on the track, or having a go at fitting an LPG system and using it as a daily. Seems a shame somehow though, 'tis a lovely old beast.
Nooooooooo!!! They are pants on track. I've seen it with my own eyes. They are a GT car. Magic carpet ride for the road. I scored a Mk3 Supra off eBay for 300 nicker, already "half converted" to a trackday toy (i.e. ruined). I just took it up to Anglesey and thrashed it until it spat all its water out... then treated it to some new wheels and did the same again at Oulton Park. I have to say, no, it's not very fast on the track, but it is absolutely hilarious. As much sideways as you can handle...I've got a spare Lexus V8 engine in the garage, and a Supra Turbo gearbox (the strong one).... I spy a V8 conversion in my future.... But I have to keep those pop-up headlights working somehow...

64 ? HML is showing 51 on road and a total of 188 inc SORN.Widebody start in 1984 therefore meaning 24 narrow ones- although there might be a 84 narrow out there.Well, for what i know anyway.
My apologies Tali it's been quite some time since I looked! Took it to a show today actually, almost everyone that walks past has to go round the back and look at the badge to see what it is fuchsiasteve said:

I've always liked the look of these, ever since playing the original Gran Turismo and figuring out it was the best car you could buy for your starter cash in Career mode
I do have a soft-spot of 80/90s Jap metal; will need to scratch the itch sometime soon.
I came to say the same thing. I had one like exactly like this. It was a monster with the right turbo.I do have a soft-spot of 80/90s Jap metal; will need to scratch the itch sometime soon.
That red one is beautiful.
I had no idea this had been SOTW! My wife is now the owner of this Supra, we travelled from the Isle of Wight to the Midlands to go look at it and I drove it all the way back without a single issue. It's not as rust free as the ad suggested (it's had the nearside wheel arch done but the other side needs fixing soon, along with the sills) and the front seats are pretty tatty but it's a project car for us anyway so that's not a problem. The plan is to restore it to factory spec entirely, including keeping the original cassette radio.
I believe the ad was mis-priced slightly, the car was being sold on behalf of a guy who had a stroke and couldn't keep it. This meant it had been stood without being driven for quite some time but it handled everything in it's stride on the journey down with the air con blasting out freezing cold. It also came with the original tool kit and mats which was nice.
I think it's the only mk3 on the Isle of Wight but I could be wrong. Here's some photos of it after a quick wash earlier today, I blanked out the plates for another forum but anyone on here can just look at the ad!

Nice buy ;0
You might find keeping it original tricky and expensive - some things like plastic trim, wheels, interior parts and glass are 'rocking horse st' rare - in particular, Japanese wheels of that era dissolve like sherbet (which is why most cars don't have the originals - in fact they'll be on set 3 or 4 if they were!!)
Toyota exhausts are also st - they rot at a scary rate and need binning for an SS item if you can find one. I had a Celica (86 ST170) from 90-95 when they offered 3-year-warranties on their exhausts and whilst I paid for 2, I got FIVE fitted in that time (so good value but a bit of a pain-in-the-arse)
Leather interior has saved you there too - it's easier to repair or replace than the cloth (which, again, would be thread by now).

We've been very lucky then - the wheels appear to be solid (although I haven't removed them yet) and just need new paint and the interior bits that need repairing are all just cuts and wear in leather! The only bit of plastic trim that has broken is the driver's electric window up switch which can still be used but is fiddly.
I bought a N/A version of one of these when I changed jobs and had to give up my company car.
It was a bit tatty but it suited me perfectly and even though it was a N/A it was a hoot to drive.
Ultimately, it almost bankrupted me. I commuted nearly 100 miles a day in it and used it regularly for trips to various places just outside London. Then the HG blew so had a 'trusted' outfit fix that for me, then they fitted a faulty gasket and unbeknownst to be it dumped all its oil and wrecked the piston rings so I needed to order a new engine and as I thought that the gearbox was a little clunky for my liking I had that replaced at the same time, then that failed...
Various maladies followed and I had to make the executive decision to downgrade. I traded it for an Orion and I shed a tear when it drove off down the road.
Would I have another? You're god-damned right I would, in fact if I had space on my drive right now and I could put up with that blue interior I think I could've been easily talked into it.
One of my favourite cars ever!
I saw it on ebay a few years ago with yet another CHG failure and the bidding started at £150 but I couldn't justify it as I was between jobs at the time.
Definitely a turbo next time though, (or maybe a Lexus V8 conversion. )

Good shed, have been wondering when the mkiii would appear.
And as this has turned a little bit into "show us yours..." I've done this to mine...
