Thanks for the write up - nicely amusing start to Friday, and reminds me of the old Wogan features on 'Janet and John' (if you've never heard them think saucy postcard put to a script).

I even like the motor. But rather overshadowed by it's successor, no?

Great shed, reckon you could get many years of swift comfortable driving out of this one. The red one above looks great on those wheels, shows how good they can look.

Good write-up too. Only nit to pick is that I'm fairly sure that, while turbos have a lower static compression ratio, by the time the turbo is on boost the extra pressure brings the cylinder pressure up to the same or higher, so head gasket limitations are an issue on these especially with increased boost. That said, I've heard that fixes do exist to sort it.

Well as I just sighned up this morning and found this shed thought I mention my Supra. Owned it for 12 years thats the longest i have owned any car. Great turbo whistle. solid, fast (for its day) easy to get 300 brake plus from it. The most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. Really good.
Down sides. Steering has little feel and grip no the best in the wet. Sold it few years ago now and shouldnt of done so.
You may even be able to see the pics.

I did consider buying that very car, I emailed you and it had gone, didn't it go to your brother in law ?

I do have a soft spot for these, I bought one once before but the headgasket went so got a refund, scary in the wet on massive (for the time) 17 inch wheels and budget tyres, it was an auto, bootful int he wet and it kicked down, right into making decent boost and then into some slidy scary stuff if you werent used to/expecting it.

This doesn't look to bad but they can be very very rusty, under the back seats can be a problem area, well at this age, any area can be.

Think the headgasket problem, contrary to to the article was more prevalent on the turbo models, most will have been changed for an uprated gaqsket if they are still around, think it was a TRD metal one that solved the issue, not sure the N/A was affected, or if it was, was to a much lesser degree.

The n/a is still a decent car, only down 31 bhp on the turbo, completely different drive, the turbo does make a huge difference but the n/a is still a nice drive.

I would have to tone done the 80's whiteness overload of colour coding, it makes current Audi owners look like they just aren't trying hard enough.

A friend at university turned up with one of these having bought a box full of 'go faster' and 'be louder' bits on the way home.

It was significantly quicker than any of the GTIs, G40s etc. present at the time.

It was also significantly more backwards in some poor sap's living room (via his garden and front walls) less than a week later.

Good shed smile

Thats a good memory.
I do remembering emailing a few people from the Supra club about it. Had lots of intrest but few offers usual stuff. Yes it did go to my b in law but before funds changed hands he backed out. (reckon my bossy sister put her foot down)! So it went to guy on the club. I presume he still has it hopefully still in as good nic.
It had lots of goodies added.

I've always liked the look of these, ever since playing the original Gran Turismo and figuring out it was the best car you could buy for your starter cash in Career mode hehe

I do have a soft-spot of 80/90s Jap metal; will need to scratch the itch sometime soon.
Buy the supra, win the first 3 races and buy a mk1 impreza WRX.

Good times!

That's stunning!

That model of Supra looks a lot better in red than white.

That's lovely, I'm sad for you that you regret selling it. That's a real beauty and the wheels really suit it.

A very good SOTW.

In fact, I was looking at these only the other week and the best I found were leggy N/A examples going for well over £1k!

In that context, this seems a bit of a bargain??

The red or black are better colours with a manual box , although for £995 whats not to like .as long as you don't live too far from a petrol station

It's fab but I'd have the original wheels back on if it was mine.

If I had a choice, I'd go for the earlier squarer Supra 2.8i. I drove one a lot back in the day and loved it.

I think (paradoxically) it is the autobox that has saved it from that fate till now. It'll be a shame when the last one of these gets "Barried". Hope someone buys it and keeps it "factory".

Agree top shed though.

Done plenty of head-gaskets on both the NA model and the Turbo models generally down to the fact that the "For Life" coolant was not confused and mainly suffered with the radiators furring up because of said coolant was knackered (depleted corrosion inhibitors) rolleyes lovely old barge in either form IMO and that could well be a bargain ....just shame about the colour scratchchin
