Fabulous SOTW. My bro had one back in the day and it actually drew lots of attention from the ladies believe it or not.....
And what a great write up too!

One of my car pals bought a Turbo one in the mid 90s.Had just had the head gasket done before he got it, bit of a weak point on these. Quite hairy in the wet and a heavy old bus for an 80s car, somewhere over 1600kgs for a Turbo.
Nice, comfy seats but a big thirst too so he got rid of it after a few months and got an S13 200SX facelift which was more affordable ( but a different sort of car, not so much a big GT )

The sad thing is that it'll be ruined/modified by the next owner frown

Seriously nice shed though smile
I think (paradoxically) it is the autobox that has saved it from that fate till now. It'll be a shame when the last one of these gets "Barried". Hope someone buys it and keeps it "factory".

Agree top shed though.
I think these are past Barrying now, they have moved onto other, new cars, the E46 3 Series and a variety of Audis seem to be getting the treatment.

That seems stupid cheap to me - "misprice on the ad, meant to be £1995" kind of cheap.

I remember driving one for a couple of days in the early 90's when my MR2 went in for work. It was fantastic - so quick! It was so wafty and luxurious, but quite a laugh to hussle along, like a budget 560SEC Merc.

I was young and reckless at the time and I remember getting it slightly out of shape on the A329 near Reading in the wet - it was such a handful and for a brief moment whilst looking at the dual carriageway rushing towards me out of the side window it was clear to me exactly how much road these things take up....

I was really annoyed at my dad as a kid for buying a GT-Four over one of these. I calmed down pretty quick after going out in the Celica though.

That's what I thought. If it is unmodified and as rust-free as the seller says, then even with 106,000 on the clock, it's surely worth a bit more than a bag. I'd have guessed 3 or 4 grand, at the least.

Well as I just sighned up this morning and found this shed thought I mention my Supra. Owned it for 12 years thats the longest i have owned any car. Great turbo whistle. solid, fast (for its day) easy to get 300 brake plus from it. The most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. Really good.
Down sides. Steering has little feel and grip no the best in the wet. Sold it few years ago now and shouldnt of done so.
You may even be able to see the pics.

What a beauty. The missus would never get in it but meh!

Oh come on. Will you be telling Skoda jokes next or commenting on written off cars with the caption 'it will buff out'?

I do love these. They should be preserved as part of Japanese muscle car history. That red example looks perfect with those wheels, sorry you had to sell it.

Great SOTW!

This was my poster car when I was a boy. Even at £995 I can't bring myself to get one now, they're not so classic looking or lustable for me any more. Shame really.

Great SOTW - excellent cars these. I went in my friends turbo/manual a very long time ago and it was rapid. They look great too. THere was a very highly modified one that used to run at santa pod and run low 11's or something like that.

They've never really fetched good money so make a great cheap fast car smile

This surely brought a smile to my face....one of my friends brothers growing up had one of these back home in Zimbabwe had a "Bad to the Bone" sticker on the bumpers anyway the head gasket blew up spectacularly on the motorway, chasing down a BMW 325is. Proper 80s nostalgia but for me it would be the earlier Celica Supra a bit smaller and more of a looker in my own opinion.

The value of these is a bit of a sore point for owners, in fact I'm amazed at the positivity this has received considering the perceived lack of interest reflected in asking prices.

Also I'd be willing to bet that there is a shed load of rust in the rear arches, just well hidden.

Might not seem it now, but back when these were new they were a very classy car, I remember we were re homing a dog (Chihuahua) my brother had found and taken in that nobody had claimed, anyway, the lady in the newsagents told her friend who came to collect it and arrived in a brand new turbo (also white) and I was all over it, remember it sat there purring away and me being very jealous.

Anyway, the lady spent £100 odd on the dog getting it coiffured, checked over at the vets and buying new stuff only for the little st to bite her daughter, so we get a phone call and either we get the dog back or he goes to Doggy Dignitas, so the Supra re-appears, dog gets dumped (and stayed another 7 years) and off she goes, proper posh tarty piece, probably her contemporary now would drive a high end A5 or S5 as dont think Toyota do an equivalent nowadays and not sure if Lexus do ?

I remember one of the dads had one just like this when I was at First School. Of course, it would've been new then . . . !

Halcyon days!

This was the first car that taught me to be gentle in the wet. Facing oncoming traffic after a rather aggressive gear change was a bit of a shocker.
