Not convinced about there being fixes for the head gasket (and the bottom end). A nose round the MkIII Supra forum might suggest otherwise.

Still, the 7M-GTE is, arguably, the reason that Toyota's JZ engines were so thoroughly over-engineered, so every cloud and all that. smile

I really like this too.

Mileage is stated as 106000 I think.
Touché sir! I stand corrected.

This surely brought a smile to my face....one of my friends brothers growing up had one of these back home in Zimbabwe had a "Bad to the Bone" sticker on the bumpers anyway the head gasket blew up spectacularly on the motorway, chasing down a BMW 325is. Proper 80s nostalgia but for me it would be the earlier Celica Supra a bit smaller and more of a looker in my own opinion.

I've always liked the look of these, ever since playing the original Gran Turismo and figuring out it was the best car you could buy for your starter cash in Career mode hehe

I do have a soft-spot of 80/90s Jap metal; will need to scratch the itch sometime soon.
Buy the supra, win the first 3 races and buy a mk1 impreza WRX.

Good times!
The best starting strategy was to get golds in the license tests for the Dodge Copperhead.
Then start grinding for the Castrol Supra (which was the best car in the game).

Lovely car. Still looks good, I reckon. I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road.

It's a much needed reminder too that Toyota hasn't always sold bland boxes. Take the GT-86 out of the equation, and everything else they make today for the UK market would have you reaching for the Prozac. Uninspiring doesn't even begin to cover it.

I used to own a 2.5TTr. A fantastic machine which I should never have sold... I know it's still out there and I want it back!

Stick on an air flow metre from an LS400 - this raises the fuel cut defence of the normal AFM.
Then stick an electric HKS boost controller on it. It'll give a good few extra bhp!

No that bothered that I sold it. After all you cant keep these things for ever. Kids, wife, dog and house soon put pay to that. Moved on to other motors. You know the usual family stuff. frown

That's lovely, I'm sad for you that you regret selling it. That's a real beauty and the wheels really suit it.

I knew a guy who had a mint one of these tucked up in a spare garage. It was dark blue with dark grey leather, on around 14k miles. He simply never drove it, despite it looking so lovely.

For me the next generation Supra was about a million times sexier. This is clearly a shared opinion based on their prices.

That white rump would be a perfect place to stick a P'heads logo. Only one I knew belonged to an estate agent who chopped it in for an R32 Skyline. Seem to remember he had issues with rust in the 3/4 panels. Other than that he had 180,000 on the clock and still ran spot on.

I also would like to hear more about why straight-sixes are less fuel efficient - as, I'm sure, would generations of BMW engineers mumbling 'How cvould ve haff mizzed somzing zo obviouz?"

I still really want one of these for all the reasons above, but with the over-engineers 1JZ, too bad not many come up for the pittance I got for my Jag (that's my fault though).

If you are trying to import one they were at £8-£12k for a good 1JZ GT limited, this was back in August.

MA70s are lovely I'm sure but it will always have to be a JZA70 for me and there has been one for sale in Ireland for about 6 months now. Hmmmm.

I would very much like to add some bolt-on "fender flares" and beautiful dished period wheels, and have it sit llllloooww to the ground on some very good coilovers. I'd add a ducktail spoiler as well. However, one man's shakotan is just "barry" in the eyes of the uninitiated. Not really feasible on UK roads anyway :rollingeyessmileyface:

That's what I thought. If it is unmodified and as rust-free as the seller says, then even with 106,000 on the clock, it's surely worth a bit more than a bag. I'd have guessed 3 or 4 grand, at the least.
Practical Classics list them on their price guide:

Concourse / Dealer - £3750
Condition 1 - £2850
Cond. 2 (average) - £1300
Cond. 3 (i.e. box of bits) £550

And they reckon averages 20 mpg eek

Back in the early 90s I used to pass one of these regularly - sharing a drive with an MR2.

I mention this only because both cars are STILL THERE and clearly still in regular use!!

They refurbed the Supra last year - new wheels and some pimp bits which I think spoiled it a touch - but it's been a daily driver for 25 years which is quite a thing...

From what I remember in the 80s didn't BMW and Toyota team up at some point in an effort to come up with another model, hence the similar looks?
I've got an early Mark 2 Celica Supra I bought from the original owners, still a relatively old fashioned car compared to the MK3 Supra which was a bit of a technical showcase in its day. You can clearly see the influence on cars like the 850i looking at it:
