Could someone enlighten me as to what these deposits are that keep appearing on our cars?

They resemble clay like deposits up to 2-3mm in height, well attached and solid but can be crumbled easily by hand. They only appear on our driveway which sits between one Sycamore tree to the west and generic British woodland to the east. Presumably the trees are to blame as with any southerly winds which put the cars in the lee of the house the deposits are noticeable by their absence.

I have googled everything I can think of but nothing on the web seems to match.

Does anyone have the answer?

Thanks.

Well I did google bird poo and nothing looked even vaguely similar. The problem is that this stuff appears 24/7 and you can wash the car in the evening and this stuff is back by the morning. Since birds don't fly at night I doubt it's them. Thought of bats but they don't fly in daylight and this stuff appears within an hour or two of washing so I doubt it's them either.

Puzzled?

Well if it was owls they'd have to be flying all day every day because the deposits appear within an hour of washing.

Looking at the internet on the subject of bird droppings they always come in liquid form and in two elements. This arrives and solidifies instantly, crumbles to clay/dust and is water soluble. Rain just washes it off.

I can assure you my question is not a wind up. We really do have this stuff on our cars.
