This isnt a cocky what is the point post, its a genuine question

Was behind a superb that had a 4x4 badge on the back, for a none performance long distance type car what benefits does it bring

Is it simply for bad weather etc, or is there some other reason why

It might well have been a performance Superb. The 3.6 V6 version shares its engine with the base Cayenne.

I'm sure the huge majority of four wheel drive vehicles sold new in the UK don't have 4WD for performance, they have 4WD because the buyer once got stuck on a snowy hill.

We have them at work and they are superb as repose cars. Grippy, and reliable. We have the 2.0 TDI version.

Usefull for winter weather and slippery roads. Easily copes with moderately adverse conditions.

If they sold a superb estate 4x4 with a nice simple petrol engine in the UK i would buy one in a heartbeat

We live somewhere very rural and our current family car of a forester is excellent but starting to show its age

I think you can get the 1.8 in 4x4 guise.

You could apply the same question to most Quattro audis, xdrive bmws etc

Seen one of these yesterday, I was like "why does that Skoda have 4 tailpipes?"

Shame its not 300bhp though.

Don't forget, we do sometimes get conditions like this in England.

Exactly. Secure in wet conditions let alone snow etc. Also provides additional grip when pressing on on dry roads. The 3.6 awd Superb in estate guise sounds like a rather nice wagon for the money (second hand). Tuneable too with that engine.

VAG parts bin, plus CZ (along with a lot of the rest of Europe) gets worse winters than we do. The rest is "Well, why NOT put a RHD rack in and import it?"
