Renaultsport Megane R26.R: Pic Of The Week

The evangelising will stop soon, honest

To the uninitiated, the Renaultsport Megane R26.R looks like what one might describe as a 'barried-up special'. The stickers, the black wheels, the red belts and the loud exhaust give it a certain undesirable look to some.

But ignore the uneducated. Those who know will be very excited by the R26.R, a car talented enough to be welcomed to the PH Hero ranks yesterday. Plastic windows with the rear wiper gone, foglights deleted as they're a frippery and a carbon bonnet because it's really light. That's attention to detail.

So Pic Of The Week had to honour the hardest of hardcore hatches again. Here we've got it on the tarmac at Brands GP, just before Westfield. Excellent track, fantastic car and (dare we say it) quite a good POTW. Enjoy!

I've bought and sold HN58UGY a couple of times. The pics on track and videos cached on Youtube don't always help with a sale! It's actually Car #002 of the debatable amount ever registered. The first six cars were Press Cars, but Renault always do a good job preparing them to re-market. I had Clio 182 Trophy #002 as well, would have been nice to have kept them both from the first time i owned them. With the intention of trying to keep it, overdraft permitting, this R26.R was in my unit with a cover on it for six months but I rarely used it and sold to a man in France, it's since come back and been sold a couple of times since.

To add to the PH Hero Review, I once bought one off a client who owns a GT2 and he nearly didn't sell it to me. On the way down he was reminded how good it was and as much fun as the Porsche. Although to be fair it was re-mapped and inter-cooled to 300BHP though which overcomes the underpowered feeling of the standard car, and also had the AP Racing 330mm Brake Upgrade. The Titanium Exhaust is essential not only for top re-sale prices, although that differential has diminished if it's a super clean example, but if you want to hear the weird resonance and whoosh I've only heard on R26.R Ti.

What a fabulous car. I hired R4R's R26r for ten laps of the ring about 6 years back. Never had I driven a car so fast and forgiving on that particular circuit.
I enjoyed those laps (shared with my brother) more than using my own CSL or Exige or M5 touring, all of which I've driven there in and in R4R's own GT3RS or their Clio RS.

And, I've no doubt their (R4R's) was thrashed to high heaven!

It's such a shame they never sold that model in Australia because I would buy one in a shot, it's a true classic!
