I did make another thread before about what choices of cars I had but people were extremely insistent on offering me other cars so I'm going to start this as a simple quick-fire recommendations thread.

Cars I've considered: Chrysler Crossfire, Ford Racing Puma and Smart Roadster coupe brabus/modified

Requirements: must be an unusual sports car/GT coupe which can be reasonably bought and run for under £5k. It must look nice, be simple to run and most important it must be COOL!

(No Mazda RX8 or MX5 please)

So say which I should buy or any suggestions and why I should consider it.

GO!

Not quite sure what you're asking. Do you want recommendations of other cars to consider or just thoughts on the three you've listed?

If the former, Toyota Celica GT4?

Have a look at Alfa Romeo GTVs and Spiders, post 98 ones. You should be able to get a V6 for that sort of cash too. Nowhere near as unreliable as some folk would have you believe. Mine was certainly better than my missus' Saabs and Volvos in terms of trips to the garage. Wear and tear items for nearly 6 years.

Only had a quick look but something like this would interest me with your requirements.

Bose sound system and a 3.2 V6 sound system too!

Another vote for the Honda S2000. Nissan 200SX also hover around this price.

Might get a good 2.8i Capri for £5k - simple to maintain, sounds great, terrific fun to drive and won't depreciate...

You could just about get a 350z for that money - either a leggy UK car or an import.

Here we go again....

From your previous thread, it seems that low maintenance is pretty high on your list (if you didn't like the bills that came with a Figaro, you're really not going to like the ones that will come with many of the suggestions that you're likely to get in this thread).

What I don't think we really ever established before is what you are going to be using the car for. Do you live in the sticks for example? Lots of motorway driving? B road hooner or A road cruiser?

The suggestion of DC2/5 ITR was dismissed from the previous thread I seem to remeber, which js a shame...

S2000 a very good shout, but how do you feel about soft tops?

I'm ok with soft tops as my old roadster and the figaro were both open top cars.

Hmm tough question, Id probably go for either a Chrysler Crossfire, Ford Racing Puma or Smart Roadster coupe?

Of the three which is best for my needs?

Has to be good looking, fast, reasonably fun, not horrendous to run and be somewhat practical.

The only problem you will have with the Racing Puma is the availability of parts, as Ford only made 500 RPs and some parts were just for the car- it was getting hard to find brakes before I (sadly) sold mine. CRACING drivers car, not fast in a straight line though.
