I've had this a few times. Not so much other cars speeding up but rather, flashing or peeping when I've passed.

I think that increasingly I see people at their worst when they're driving (with train commuters a close second).

I was driving into town earlier today and pulled up at a set of lights next to an astra. As they turned to green, I accelerated away within the speed limit only for the astra driver to undertake me, almost clipping my wing mirror in the process) and then cut me up to prevent me being in front I assume. He then realised the car in front was turning right and subsequently swerved back into the left lane which was slightly ahead of the cars in my lane.

My problem is, his actions made me want to actually get out of the car and throttle him...which makes me just as bad as him I guess. It would be nice to be able to simply shake my head and let him them go on their way!

To be honest people in this country are quite pathetic. I have never experienced it in the rest of europe.

Just today I undertook 3 cars at a very steady pace on the motorway but their expressions suggested I was having a wk and spraying all over the window.

As a few have mentioned people hate being passed by. It happens a lot people you are going at steady speed - many seem to think its a race and start following at the same speed.

Sometimes I do get annoyed and leave them for dust but most of the time I ignore them.

Sometimes I love to drive slowly around 60mph on the motorway and when I do I make sure I do not get in the way or interupt the flow of traffic or someone elses flow of driving.

If someone wishes to overtake me, I try to help where possible (pull in a bit and slow down slightly as they are overtaking where applicable).

I don't understand at all why people try to block others when overtaking. Even if someone is being aggressive, I would rather they be in front of me than behind frankly...
Me too, as per the Highway Code

It's a territory or I know best thing. I've been subject to the OPs experience many times. Even once had someone try and run me off the road after I'd overtaken them. Nutters. I keep well clear of most drivers and when I do overtake I do it at light speed.

Just had a small blast on such roads, I pass so quick that they don't have time to be stupid. Naturally I readjust my speed once ahead.
I've taken to this and it's very effective, especially if you know the road you can sit back until just the right moment. I've seen a quite few fleeting panicked/wtf looks as they check the rear view mirror when the engine lights up by which time I've already passed them.

I didn't know the A12 was a single lane road that went through 30mph villages?

It happens a lot. But it's great when they floor it and you still effortlessly sail past smile
indeed! Vindicates buying the model with a "proper" engine and not the normal sewing machined sized engine most cars come with these days ;-)
yes Faster cars are safer.

Fact. smile

Having a fast car always helps in these situations. You're normally past by the time said moron reacts. Having replaced the m3 with an old golf tdi, I have to plan a bit more and if they decide to gun it I'll have to get off the gas as it's simply not quick enough. Luckily it hasn't happened yet....

The right car for overtaking is essential, nothing says "I don't give a fk" like shooting 2 foot flames from the exhaust as you change up on the way passed.

I've had this happen to me before aswell so much so that I now time my overtakes very carefully, and always be prepared for them to try and block my overtake ie 3rd gear vtec zone so I know I can get past

This.. ive had people try to shove me into a ditch a couple of times so now I dont take chances being gentle and polite. If im going to to do it, it gets done loudly and decisively with no regard to anything but getting past cleanly and quickly.

It's dual from the M25 to Ipswich, but after Ipswich it goes into single carraigeway.

Blythburgh (Suffolk) is a 30 and often has a camera van present.

This part of the A12 is between Lowestoft and Ipswich. Theres four (IIRC) sections of 30mph, one at Wrentham, one at Blythborough, one at Yoxford and the over I cannot for the life remember but its just as you get to the Framlingham bypass.

Yes the 35mph driver hung me out to dry, as I say I could have outpaced him I think, however this would have involved probably overtaking both vehicles at once and leaving myself on the wrong side of the road for longer than I would have liked. Not that there was oncoming traffic at the time but hey.

The Ipswich bit is confusing as it disappears until you go from Copdock to Seven Hills then reappears.

I live in Ipswich but used to work in Lowestoft so sadly very familiar with the road and its failings.

This doesn't happen when you have something fast.

The thing that annoys me is when you make an over take and the person coming the other way starts flashing you even when they are way off in the distance. I don't get it.

While not strictly to the highway code, don't indicate. Its like a warning to them and allows them to get ready to sprint. Found this a few times running to Knockhill on the only real straight bit from Powmill. Solution, just go for it and by the time you are past they have no time to reply.

As someone who has occasion to drive a seriously slow series landy on occasion I have no problem with people over taking, heck i'll even go out of my way to make it easy to do so by pulling over etc. It's the people who haven't the balls to overtake when there is a clear chance, yet like to sit a foot of the rear bumper that piss me off!

I find this quite a lot.

It didn't bother me when I drove the 528 for work, I could normally choose what to do, but now I use a 69 bhp VW caddy van .................... !

Then once they've thwarted me, they slow down again.

Bastids.

I was out a nice drive this afternoon on B roads. Came round a corner to find a queue of 4 cars stuck behind a Land Rover on L plates doing about 40 in a 60, on a mile long straight which I could see was clear the whole way down. Dropped into 3rd, indicated and blasted down the right past them all and nipped back in in front of the land rover, continuing on about 60mph (naturally)

I stopped at the next village for an ice cream (because sunshine) and got told by one of the (female) drivers who was stuck in the queue that my manoeuvre was absolutely atrocious and that inevitably I will kill a young family one day and that she had my reg no and was going to report me to the police.

The ice cream was good though.
