Can anyone explain to a Pod virgin why the other car seemed to leave the line about 3 or 4 seconds before the Evo?
I would presume the other car wanted to set a 1/4 mile time, whereas the EVO was out to set 0-60 record, thus he 'let him go' so that should things go pie shaped, there would be no chance of car-to-car contact.

Basically, the EVO wasnt staging to the lights.
That makes sense. Ta. thumbup

Brutal - is it road legal?

1/4 mile time and trap speed he didn't appear to ease off so if it was set up specifically for 0-60 which would harm 1/4 mile that's even more remarkable.
170mph 8 odd seconds.

Last time I went a monster MG Maestro Turbo (red) somehow was doing nearly 120mph 1/4 mile times and a Cossie was into the very low 120mph's. They were bloody quick so for an EVO to utterly destroy that time well done on the chap who built it great effort.

The SWB evo is back to its original brief as a drag car then. Probably for the best to be fair.

What is the spec of it, especially the engine?
What fuel is it running?

+1 I'd love to know some of the technical details.

Although if it was heads up racing (the only way to race properly!) the Evo would have lost by a country mile even he he'd run a quicker 'number'.

All of the Jap stuff I've seen race sit and wait for the turbo to spool up before leaving the line.

Sorry if it's the wrong section but hey... Just wanted to congratulate an old school mate simon Norris on his 0-60 time of 1.7 seconds in his evo 9 on what was a very "sticky" pod strip. Various other impressive figures on his quater mile if I can find the link to his stuff will post it later. Well done to simon and all the team at Norris designs for their achievements.
Off topic but did he go to The Corsham School? I was either in the same year as a Simon Norris or his sister Fiona. Sure they had Thornton in the name.

Anyway as you were.

Yes that's him. I will get the exact spec when I next see him. I know it's race fuel, not road legal, races at Combe with saloons and when last on the rollers was doing 1051BHP.

No, it's run what ya bring. Not racing at all.

If it was racing, he'd want to work on that reaction time.

I was at Santa Pod when Sammy Miller ran vanishing point.

That was fast.

Very impressive stuff.

Drag racing isn't my thing but I do appreciate the effort that goes into the cars.

Few years ago I helped a friend out with his F5000 Lola - racing in Libra - we worked on it most evening and weekends for the occasional race.

One evening we were working on the Lola and a friend turned up. He was a drag racer.

Lola drivers wife brings us coffee and it went a bit like this:

Wife: I don't understand, you spend all hours in the garage fixing the car and only get a 30 minute race.

Drag racer: Well I spend the same amount of time fixing my car and only get 9 seconds race time......and I'm trying to make it less than that!
