Spa 6 Hours 2014: the racing cars
Discussion
There you go:
Ford GT40 dominated LM from '66 tot '69. A bit odd these are allowed in todays pre '65 category, since they were hopeless in the first LM entry in 1965. Head of the Spa 6 Hrs grid has grown from 4 to 12 GT40 cars and last few years the winner is always one of these. Number 5 came in 4th, after 3 fellow GT40s. Glasel / Brack tandem did a good job: 2:46 best lap!
P8 Davies / Young GT40 whizzing by.
The Voyazides / Hadfield train. Quickest lap of the race (2:45) and last years winners. P2 in 2014.
Both Fords and both 289s in: what a compelling difference of 20 secs!
P36 noisy Notchback.
Why this P37 GT40 lapped 79 x and only got a 3:16 secs best is beyond me.
Always a cool sight and sound: Shelby Ford 350 GT.
Happy with this nose.
Next: details and details.

Rui and Pedro Silva 289 AC Cobra:
That is just art.
Can't find anything on this car, so I dunno if it's a genuine article or a rep.
It would be a dream to steer this around Spa.
The lines. The Pedro's campaign Ford GT40s in historic racing. The famous rare green Roadster is theirs.
Read about it here: http://www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=6640...
Next: more Cobra, Bizzarrini and Big Bertha.

V8 details:
Big Bertha exposed. Gerry's hack.
AC Cobra filler cap.
Utter coolness: 289 Cobra.
Transforming into period atmosphere.
Dream garage right there!
Grifo A3/C - Bizzarrini 5300GT
I believe this is a Ford GT40.
De Tomaso Longchamp (by Tom Tjaarda) restyling by Frua: Maserati Kyalami (198 units 1976 - 1983). I ran from La Source back to the outer paddocks to meet up with Lilian and Phil. Rains suddenly stopped when I passed this stunning piece of V8. Lady owner - a charming 50-something - was in for a brief chat. Who knows about this car right?

Oh my goodness, it's a 1960 Ferrari 246S Dino.
One of three and this is #0784.
Strakka Racing campaigns this lovely F1 powered Jano V6.
Original 1.5 SOHC was enlarged to 2.4 litres. This is a quick car with 240 brake on tap.
Buckets full of heritage here: after it caught fire this ex-works car was rebodied by Fantuzzi and driven to a 2nd overall by Phil Hill and Von Trips in the 1960 Targa Florio.
Attractive plastic bubble covers the 6 trumpets of the unusual 65 degree Jano V6. The original 1.5 litre F2 entry was enlarged to 2 litres for F1 use. The V6 currently boasts 2.4 litres and sounds like an absolute dream.
Nice 2nd place in the Woodcote Trophy.
Phew. What a stunning car. I was a bit surprised there was no crowd drooling over it.

1993: the first edition of the Spa Six Hours, held on the Spa Francorchamps circuit on the 18th July. Some 30 teams found themselves at the foot of the Raidillon for a notably rain drenched race. Nothing out of the ordinary for the world's greatest circuit, even in mid-summer.
At the end of a highly thrilling 101-lap race, victory went to the German duo, Reis-Hoppermanns at the wheel of a Lotus Elan. The podium, pretty international already in those days, was completed by the British pair Welch-Freeman (Austin Healey 3000), and the Germans Offergeld-Kather.

Maybe the most famous of all D-types, exept for the Ecurie Ecosse LM- winners.
Lovely history here: http://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/...
My pick of the pack: Zieglers D-type.
Secure check out procedure.
Some Jaguar Listers came with a straight six but this fierce one has a Chevy unit in.

All sorts of shapes and sounds is what makes 50s racers fantastic to watch.
