Another dull sounding RS, seem to hear more tire noise than engine noise. Sad times in the automotive industry, gone are the days of the Quatro Turbos, or RS2's,B5, B6 RS4's or the brutal sounding earlier //M cars, now its just very efficient, fast but dull sounding soulless cars.... Sigh

Keeping an eye on this with interest. Can only hope they stick with the 2.5 engine, at least 370bhp and ideally, reduce the rear seat space in favour of a slightly bigger boot, as that is the current limitation on this car (as with the Golf) that makes it not idea as a young family car!
Me too. My wife has the 5 door S3 and the boot is ridiculously small. It's smaller than on my old bimmer.

I'll be watching with interest. I'm very tempted by the old RS3 as prices are coming down and most up for sale have low mileages. If this offers a good deal more over the old car then maybe I'll plump for new instead, but it's going to be at least an extra £15k. And if it has a synthesised engine note they can forget it, the old car does pretty well without that crap.

if revo can remap a mk7 golf r to 3.7 0-60, i shudder to think what this will do once someone like mrc gets their hands on it.

entering an era of really fairly boggo family hatches doing low 3's 0-60 with a bit of a tweak, bonkers!

By what measure does the old RS3 'do pretty well'? Understeer? Nearly every review categorised it as a lumpen old one trick pony.

Frankly they could pipe in the sound of a combine harvester and I wouldn't care, if this new one can drag its arse around a corner properly. That said, this one sounds absolutely epic.

Just.....so......boooooorrrrrrriiiiinnnnnngggggggg.

Sorry, that's childish, but my god these cars have become dull. They're so un-driver focussed, so every day lazy, so utterly bland.

Can't someone buck this trend of turbocharged, heavy and crap looking rubbish? Please god, just give us a hint of exciting. Just a hint. Performance hatches have become paint by numbers; bit more power, posh looking seats, fancy alloys, all of your money please.

It's like all the passion in car making has moved to the hybrid and eco-focussed cars, where at least people are pushing what's realistically achievable. A current hot hatch is just the next step before the facelift. 350bhp? Why not 500bhp? It will be in ten years. Technology won't have advanced. We're not being held back by knowledge, we're being held back by marketing. You're not buying the best that can be achieved, and that's what we used to expect in a hot-hatch.

The engines been about for years

Remap is 3.2 to 60 and 7.5 to a ton :-)

Or hybrid turbo for a sub 6 second 100mph car.

On a daily basis I usually end up driving both an 11 plate S3 and an 04 plate M3 (my wife's and mine). I normally go for a drive for about an hour each morning, however, my car was off the road for four weeks and I got stuck using the wife's car. I didn't venture out once in the morning for a drive. It's a lovely car and is pretty fast, but fun???? NO!

I'm no Audi basher, I quite like them but they're not for some folks. This RS3 doesn't appeal to me in the sense of a fun car but for a well made, fast way to cover ground it will be great. I've had a few fast turbo and supercharged cars but really don't like them. Unfortunately unless you're going to start buying lamborghinis then turbos are going to be all you're getting in a few years.

And yes in ten years it will be 500BHP...which is just nuts especially considering that speed limits are getting lower. Remember though that it was not so long ago that a 200BHP cossie was 'mental'.

Don't lament this situation.....just find yourself a good old N/A engined car, cherish it and keep as many on the road as possible.

Oh and try not to cry when a yummy mummy destroys you in a straight line on her way to Tescos. wink

So what do you drive and do you have to drive it everyday?

A3 Sportback has the most terrible wind noise from the near side rear window area from 50 mph, and Audi say that's fine, so be warned before you part with your cash, it needs to be a loud exhaust to dampen the noise!!!!
Mine doesn't. Maybe you should try again with complaining?

These hot hatch comparison made by journos always confuse me. Is this really a competitor for the M135i?
Quite simply, no.
The m135i has no rivals in the junior supercar segment

I was at an Audi Product Show in Germany recently. We were shown the new RS3, new R8 and the new TTS. RS3 will have just under 370bhp.
Huh, interesting and a very low number in my eyes. The S3 / Golf R (EA888) engine can be remapped to 360 hp and there were rumours about an Audi S3 Plus with that 4-cylinder and a 360 bhp tune.

If the RS3 will have "just under 370bhp" with an engine that is apparently capable of 525 bhp in the Clubsport concept then that S3 Plus is off the table. And arguably the Golf R400 too.

... and you are sure weren’t shown the S3 Plus instead of the RS3?
I'm very sure, thank you for asking!!

Seems rather unlikely unless the car is significantly lighter. Where was this show here in DE?

The S3 was bumped by 35hp, so I'd expect at least that for the new RS3. Regardless, like the last one, I'm sure it will be a cracking drive.

Yyyyyyaaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnn

Another overpriced boring Audi to be launched, how unusual, bet that costs nearly £50k with a spec that should be all std equipment knowing audi. Also the exhaust sounds nothing special. Just sold a 1988 UR Quattro Turbo which is twice the car and fun and 2/5ths the money

Audi need to make something exciting for once like a light stripped out TT roadster its getting so boring and predictable with Audi

Not really a like for like comparison, and yes I expect it will prob cost £45k to £50k but also be worth pretty close to that in a couple of years. Having had a Mb Quattro in the family for 15 years So know exactly how much fun they are
