Why do they not do a 3dr RS3? My girlfriend has a 61 plate S3 and would love to move to this when it's up for replacement but having 5 doors is going to stop her buying one straight away.

Seems rather unlikely unless the car is significantly lighter. Where was this show here in DE?
Yes, Audi Training Center at Munich Airport.

Looks as though you may be correct. I've got it from a reliable source here in the meantime that they've gone with a Leichtbaukonzept and, as you suggest, 370 ps...

I hope they have designed the 8V chassis' rear arches to accommodate wider tires this time 'round. Since an RS was planned for the range from the outset, I assume this will be the case...

They don't want to take sales away from the TTRS, apparently.

By what measure does the old RS3 'do pretty well'? Understeer? Nearly every review categorised it as a lumpen old one trick pony.

Frankly they could pipe in the sound of a combine harvester and I wouldn't care, if this new one can drag its arse around a corner properly. That said, this one sounds absolutely epic.

My current car is supposed to be an understeery wreck but it doesn't bother me. Reviews say that any car that can't powerslide is rubbish so I choose to use my own head rather than a magazine.

On to my local dealer now to see if can get holding deposit sorted on one, sounds fantastic. The old one wasn't that great and still held its value incredibly well.
old one was a limited run proper skunkworks car, only 10 a day where made

this will be an unlimited run straight production line car, probably with dynamic steering and setup for "joe normal" which will be a shame since it will make it very fast A - B and totally univolving and dull just like the A45 and M235i

it needs to be 400bhp as well, which it wont be, marketing will ensure it fits neatly in the family line up ..

It'll probably cost something ridiculous like 55k after options!

Another dull sounding RS, seem to hear more tire noise than engine noise. Sad times in the automotive industry, gone are the days of the Quatro Turbos, or RS2's,B5, B6 RS4's or the brutal sounding earlier //M cars, now its just very efficient, fast but dull sounding soulless cars.... Sigh
My thoughts exactly.

the reality is its not a hatchback its the same size as the RS2 which no one ever called a hatchback

and its certainly better value at 40-50k than 100k for a speced RS6

50K for what it is seems to be quite a lot of money. 100K for an RS6 is madness. Each to their own though.

most new cars are stupidly expsensive now, partily thanks to the devaluing of sterling by 30% by printing money

the TTS announced a few days ago is 40k!!!! as is the M235i drove a couple of months back

bonkers really

Aside from the novelty factor, I don't see this as a bad thing in terms of the overall package being more complete. As I mentioned earlier, I hope the MQB system and the fact that this model was forecast for the product line from the get-go will allow the 3 to run proper rear tire sizes this time around. The MK1 is undertired.

Although I like the idea of it, other thoughts are that the 5 Door A3 looks too much like a people carrier.

An M3 owner here and I really like the RS3, I think it's a cracking car and a very interesting alternative. I love the engine and the accessible, no nonsense performance, and I like the utilitarian looks, the extra doors and the bluntness of it. I can see the appeal of a wanting a practical car that goes fast with the minimum of fuss, it sort of makes sense in this country.

but as most of these cars won't be bought but rented it's the monthly rental PCP/lease that matters!
