when i was a kid i remember an advert for something where they had some sort of sports car where the steering wheel and part of the dash would flip over so it could be either left or right hand drive
can't remember what the advert was for and have no idea if it was a real car
It wasn't a real car, I guess it might have been a concept of some kind that whoever the advert was for just used. It was an advert for something mundane like insurance or tea or something, I think. The concept was something to do with "in the future, things will be very different and stereotypes we have now will seem silly". The advert came in showing this sexy sleek, high-tech car while someone with a heavy Russian accent intoned about "the finest car in the World, made in Russia" or something like that. This was when Ladas were still available in the UK and widely regarded a joke car, hence the 'humour'. I remember thinking it was pretty cool, too.can't remember what the advert was for and have no idea if it was a real car
A few more.
1. The Lotec C1000.
Commissioned by either an Arab sheikh or oil baron (same thing probably) from the UAE in 1995. Lotec built this to be the fastest car in the world. Has a 5.6 litre Mercedes V8 (so many have probably the same MB V8 - M117 perhaps?) with two turbos. Supposedly good for 1000bhp and well over 260mph. Supposedly detuned at the minute to 800 or so but seen as it'll never get put on a dyno nor tested in anger then nobody will ever know. Has been at Barrett-Jackson and on eBay a fair few times over the last few years but pretty much always seems to be found at Lamborghini of South Carolina, or whatever the dealer is actually called.
Wish someone would buy it and lend it to a magazine to be tested.
Lotec later built this.
Has the 6.0 MB V12 from the early Pagani Zonda, SL600, CL600, etc. Again around 1000bhp allegedly without being tested and god knows what top speed.
2. The Monteverdi Hai 650 F1
F1 engined supercars were all the rage back in the late 80s it seems. This one has a detuned DFV V8 with 650bhp. Basically an F1 chassis too. Would be amazing to drive if they weren't just museum pieces.
Some sources say three built but you only ever see pictures of these two together.

Quad turbo V12.
Have we had the 1989 Peugeot Oxia yet? 2.8 tiwn-turbo V6 with 680bhp and 4wd.
And then there was the 1987-1992 Oldsmobile Aerotech, which probably still holds a bunch of high-speed records. Based on an indycar chassis with a 2.0 turbo, it was good for 260+ mph. Later versions had a 4.0 V8 and were used more for endurance records like the fastest 25,000km. Mental but brilliant.
