yes Which is why I check the ZDDP content of any triple ester synthetic I use in my 944.
As an aside, what are you using these days? I am on Royal Purple.
I've used Millers 10w50 CFS for the last 3 or 4 changes but it's got very expensive so I'm looking for something else now.

BACK ON TRACK - UPDATE

Ford are replacing the engine for free.

They did make mention that whilst the service invoice showed 5W30 it 'probably' had the correct 5W20 oil added, and it 'may' have been a typo on the service desk.

Either way, NEW ENGINE IS BEING INSTALLED. FREE

When we get the car back i will also check to see if a new header tank and re routed pipework has been fitted.

Refreshing to see a manufacturer standing by their product!

Excellent result, as expected. Now, let's see how long before you kill this one.

Fwiw, I always use a low ash oil in my Mk4 Mondeo Diesel ...and don't use it for short journeys.

I don't think we will keep it for another 30,000miles.

If anyone wants to buy a 62 Plate Focus Titanium, in white, complete with its 2nd new engine, send me a PM :-)

Comma Motorsport 5w50 is available via Amazon for £24 delivered for 5 litres. Not sure how it compares to Millers but Opieoils might comment in his dedicated thread at the top of GG here.

The internet reckons the engines blow up in those.

Anecdotally... this thread does kind of support that assessment though.

UPDATE

Just been to view the car and looked at the offending PLASTIC PIPE that burst. It was incredibly brittle. See below.

Car has been returned, all repaired at Fords cost. The Brittle Plastic tube above has been replaced by a Rubber Hose.
Hopefully that will prevent the problem reoccurring.

If you have the plastic hose on your car, i would strongly recommend changing it asap.

If that is the cause, I would strongly recommend that Ford changed everybody's....

Are the engine problems a result of the hose failing, rather than other issues damaging the hose? You might expect a coolant hose to withstand under-bonnet coolant temps.

Very good result. I think you are spot on with regards to the newer designed pipe. They wouldn't have updated it without a good reason.

Does this mean you have a restored faith in it, or is it being sold regardless?

I've just checked and it seems the Fiesta has this modification also, car this picture is taken from is a 62 plate so assume its been the rubber part since introduction.

Looking at that engine bay of the 1.0L its a surprise theres any room for anything bigger like the 2L tdci or st engine !

Recalls cost millions. Regardless of part cost.

Recalls are usually only issued for safety based issues.

This *if* actioned will probably be a service action to be carried out when a vehicle is next brought in to a dealership.

The market leader in farm tractors has been having head gasket issues for over 20 years, the official line is that they are "service items". At least you didn't pay 90 grand for your Fiesta.
